To the small handful of socially liberal and fiscally conservative folks that found this thread let me ask a few questions:

  • Does it make more fiscal sense to build a chemical treatment plant next to a neighborhood of people that can afford lawyers or a neighborhood of those that can't?
  • What is the social makeup of each of those neighborhoods?
  • How did that social makeup come to be?

The hatred of property tax really pisses me off.

I have a mortgage on the house in which I reside. I have to pay property tax on the house in which I reside. My annual property taxes are less than half the minimum monthly payment for my mortgage. If I can afford my monthly payment I can afford my taxes. If I can't afford my monthly payment the taxes aren't the problem.

And what do I actually get for that less than half a monthly mortgage payment in annual taxes?

  • 2 large parks with miles of walking paths, a playground, a basketball and a soccer court, all maintained and within 2 blocks
  • maintained roads to my house that are cleaned regularly
  • decent schools nearby

Yes, I recognize I got lucky and am privileged enough to have, not just stable housing, but that which I "own," but that just makes my distaste of the hatred of property taxes all the greater.

They don't pay attention to the world around them.

Therefore oligarchy good actually?

I can't imagine why people who are upset enough at the current state of things to go out and try to enact change might attend a rally by virtually the only politicians who hold a similar state of mind.

My initial take away after watching it was pretty much the same. It's not a new story, it's an old one that is still going on.

But I think this documentary is a huge step in fighting for Palestine.

The documentary did a great job at repackaging that story in a format I think is more accessible to western audiences than just watching Al-Jazeera.

As for where I find hope, it's difficult, but in community engagement. Volunteering with existing groups or even just helping people on your own.

AOC was at a rally where someone else said to bring out the guillotines therefore AOC is a terrorist for her "abominable speech?"

Which party actually brought out a guillotine?

If you're gonna be sent to an intermittent camp as a terrorist for torching a car what onus is there to just stick to the car?

They didn't really think this one through, did they?

Honestly? It's probably best that you just don't. It'd be nice if that weren't the case, but actual citizens have been deported now.

So if there's a problem in my door then my cameras, blinkers, and power delivery in the trunk might just stop working just cause?

How in the everliving fuck is having to pay more in taxes actually having to pay less in taxes?

Working as intended
