You may well be right, I guess I'm just trying to be as generous with intentions as I can be.

We certainly pretty much all hold that opinion. We do often talk about a lot of stuff in exaggerated terms simply because that's the culture. It's not deliberately America-focused, but like most English-speaking places on the internet it is full of Americans.

No worries on the questions though friend, ask freely.

10% of voting-age citizens in the US are not allowed to vote (disproportionately minorities). Of the rest, turnout is usually ~55% and the vote for either party is usually around or under half.

So in the absolute best case scenario, the government is put in by 25-30% of the voting age population, the overwhelming majority of whom are wealthy, white and/or old. So not much has changed.

Obviously without mentioning the many other issues, including the two-party system offering effectively zero choice for any voters anyway.

Maybe not sarcasm, but just making the explicit point that these things suck and should not exist. The people doing them are either complicit in, or directly perpetrating the harm of others and they should be treated like violent criminals.

Maybe so, who knows about the modlog, but either way their actions not being held to account by admins, even after blatantly defying their requests, isn't great.

I've seen an admin respond to the shitty DM leaking behaviour, but the admins don't seem interested in confronting the problem mainly.

The mod team on blahaj are absolutely atrocious. Other than Ada, who seems to actually engage in good faith and tries to foster at least some level understanding, their mods respond to our mods wanting to talk by leaking DMs and general bad-faith attitude. When Ada requested that direct DMs from our mods not be shared, there was some shitty scribbling and effective refusal to comply, and now also this modlog?

Everyone's a lib, that's fine. But the blahaj mods are just actively playing troublemaker at this point and don't seem interested in any kind of actual good faith interaction. They never have seemed it.

I suspect I've undiagnosed manic-depressive disorder, but either way I get heavy existential dread for 1-4 weeks straight, then reoccurring again in 1-3 months. I also get similar pressure from my industry. So I do feel you :(

That whole thread is the first thing that makes me think we should actually defederate with them. The amount of bad faith is untrue, and allowing such an unprofessional mod is untrue.

Even after Ada made the request not to leak DMs, the response was just some awful bad-faith scribbling over it with a pencil and still keeping it public. Absolutely awful. Props to you for reaching out and trying to have a discussion meow-hug
