Yeah, I agree.

I suppose, but again, I would hardly call it a cycle of breakages, after all, that was the one lone time anything major broke (blatant user error aside). In small cases where things do break (non-critical) it is sort of assumed that the people using arch will have a certain level of competence in diagnosing and fixing even minor issues. Though I will admit, that is partially less relevent now, with the introduction of archinstall, and distros such as EndeavourOS.

Possibly, but in the few years I have spent with it, it has only done that once (got a kernel panic on reboot). Managed to diagnose and fix the problem in around 10 mins without the help of the internet.

Nothing wrong with that at all! Killer and iconic album. Have you heard Havok's cover of Postmortem/Raining Blood? Spotify link just in case :)

I was pulling my "heavy riff face" the entire way through this song xD.

[–] serpineslair@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I am indeed. I told you before I wouldn't fall behind again, and yet, here we are xD. I'm trying my best here lmao.

Yes, weirdly uplifting. The riff at 2:20 is killing me... I recognise it from another song but I cannot for the life of me figure out what. But it is ingrained in me from somewhere. I got major deja vu. Fuck sake man, this is going to bug me till I figure out where it was taken from. I seemed to have an idea of it being a MW song but I've just tried to find it but to no avail. Maybe it was from something else. Damn it.

Not sure why but the section shortly after 1:05 reminds me a lot of Motorbreath - Metallica...

[–] serpineslair@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

It is, on the other hand, totally my thing! Definitely need to check out these "crazy dudes from California".

My list is ever-growing, no thanks to you haha. Good shit!

Another song from my favourite Slayer album! What's your favourite album of theirs?

Such a great classic!

Before I get onto the track itself, I'd like to preface this by saying that today I have been on a bit of an Annihilator spree. Listened to a total of 5 full-lengths and 1 EP. Long story short I was unimpressed with anything they released after their first two albums, and was holding out for anything close to a sign of returning to their former glory. I put it down to many bad judgement calls of Jeff Waters (Annihilator might as well be a one man band), despite his excellent musicianship. I finally decided to wade my way through their large discography, most of which has led to disappointment, unfortunately. I almost find it hard to believe in a way, as, Jeff is such a brilliant guitarist, a decent vocalist, and has proven his ludicrous amount of skill and songwriting talent on many occasions. I read someone describing Annihilator as a "proof of concept", and I mostly have to agree with that statement.

However, after a few hours of eye-rolls and head shaking of disapproval, my eyes finally lit up (OK, perhaps not as much as the ones in the album cover xD). This is the album I have been looking for all along. While it is no Never, Neverland or Alice In Hell, it feels like the logical third album I would have expected from the group; the self-titled release features a partial return to their early formula, and holds more resemblance to their original ideas than anything released since. Lets hope the trend continues. I will probably find out in the next few days xD.

New single by old-school bay area thrashers Forbidden! I have to say this is a big improvement over their latest effort Omega Wave (2010). Hopefully this means we may hear a new full release in the next couple years! That's all I'm going to say... take a listen for yourself, and let me know what you think!

Venom fans where you at?

This album is a masterpiece! You know I don't often use that word sparingly. I'm so glad to have found this. You MUST check out the rest of this album, or at the very least, The Best of Enemies. It is top-tier thrash with top-tier riffs, top-tier lyrics and insane, rhythmic snarling to accompany it. The sole letdown would have to be the production. The guitars, whilst sounding great themselves, get easily buried in the mix and at times you may struggle to hear the detail in the guitars. They are far too muddy for the rest of the mix. But don't let that small nitpick spoil it! Enjoy! 🤘

Apologies for the off-topic post... just letting you all know I have taken over (and renovated ;D) the heavy metal community. Hope it proves useful for all your heavy metal and nwobhm needs! It would be much appreciated if you could check out this community!

I hope to make regular posts there, and see if it gains any traction. Likely won't be as frequent as posts here, though I will try my absolute best (I only have so much free time ;D, plus my HM knowledge isn't quite as extensive as my thrash xD). I am also interested to hear your recommendations and maybe find a few hidden gems!

Cheers! 🤘

EDIT: !heavymetal@lemmy.world - I'm a dopey fucker xD.

Fairly underground old-school English thrash band, signed to Noise Records back in the day. Nothing groundbreaking, but still some solid stuff. Very fun. Vocals remind me a little of Nuclear Assault. Guitars remind me of much simpler Toxik, but more straight to the point.

New single from Dark Angel! I started out excited, I'll admit but, is it just me? Between the vocals and the random effects, and the slightly unremarkable riffs - I feel a little underwhelmed. Like the vocals sound like some sort of parody. It can't just be me who is disappointed with this. What do you guys think?

New single teaser for upcoming album. Really like the production here, powerful riffs as well. Crushing bass.
