Yes I’ve actually been to Kenya. It was a deeply personal trip, and to be honest, it’s where things properly fell into place for me. I didn’t go there expecting anything big, but as I spent time among the people, listening, learning, just being present, something shifted in me. It wasn’t immediate, just a slow, steady realisation. But it was very real.

It became clear that this wasn’t just about interest or respect. It was about belonging. Identity. To sound somewhat cliche, I found myself.

That said, with the way Lemmy’s been lately, so quick to mock or judge, I’m a bit reluctant to go into too much detail. Maybe in future I’ll write a proper post about it, when I feel it might actually be taken seriously.

Cool. I hope you have supportive people around you and the transphobia in the comments is not representative of your experience. Mind if I ask what you identify as?

Thank you! I actually don’t tell anyone I’m transracial except my partner. As you probably saw from most of the replies here, Lemmy, supposedly a bastion of diversity and equality, got hateful real fast. Real life isn’t much different.

The furry community, another group that's often ostracized, has actually been very open to it. My partner is a furry, and while I’m not, I’ve been to several conventions to support her passion. People there have been super cool and respectful during transracial discussions.

I identify as Sub-Saharan African, specifically from the Kalenjin ethnic group of Kenya.

For the record, I support you. Just understand that a lot of people on Lemmy only support what’s trendy or what their bubble tells them to support. Most haven’t taken the time, and won’t take the time, to actually look into the logic or legitimacy of transracial identity. If there aren't viral TikToks about it or high-profile progressives endorsing it, they won’t touch it.

There are thoughtful essays and a small number of people speaking up, but it’s still a niche topic. Instead of reading articles or engaging with the arguments, many will just write you off as a troll. It’s easier for them than thinking critically.

But here’s the truth: the logic behind transracial identity is not that different from transgender identity. Both involve a deep personal identification that can clash with the category assigned at birth. Both challenge rigid social constructs about what race and gender even are. And both can involve real psychological and cultural alignment, not just superficial imitation.

Give it a few years. The same people mocking this now will pretend they were always open-minded about it.

I support you, and I’m transracial myself. I expect to catch bans and hate DMs for saying that—from the same people who swear they’re anti-hate and all about inclusion.

Earlier today and yesterday, people in this community were saying that Iran doesn't have nukes, isn't making nukes, can't make nukes, and that republicans are just making it up.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

Looks like republican christian nationalists have no problems shooting people then eh?? They don’t care about either side

Well he certainly didn't have a problem with it. They also found a list with other names too, so it's good they caught him before he did even more stuff. I thought for sure he'd off himself before he got caught. I'm glad he didn't thought, because now he'll spend rest of his life in prison like he deserves.

But violence isn't the answer. For him or anyone else. And besides his senseless killings, they were also pointless. He didn't stop politics at all.

So just like anyone would want to do this to republicans, nothing would change, and the politics of republicans won't change at all. Luigi didn't change anything at all.

I don't think violence is the solution to anything in any circumstance, regardless of how many downvotes I get on Lemmy for saying that.

Lemmy, ya can stop with the nasty DM's to me; I'm not even republican! lol

You’re taking statements like “Violence is sometimes the answer” and twisting that to mean “Violence is [often / always] the answer”

No, I'm stating that my opinion is that it is never the answer. People have have had comments here removed by the mods for "advocating violence." So obviously some things about violence have been said that others have felt the need to remove.

trying to paint your view as the moral high ground

No, I gave my opinion.

Let me wrap this up, so we can move on. I don't care if every single Lemmy poster on the planet earth replies that they think violence is the answer or it's sometimes the answer or it's rarely the answer, and then downvotes me to oblivion. I don't think violence is ever the answer.

No matter the hitler, knife, nuke bomb, dinosaur time machine, black hole travels to every bad time period etc scenario. I'm not going to change my mind. You aren't either. That's fine. You're free to your opinion, as I am to mine.

I'm not upset about this conversation at all and I don't think anyone should be. But it's getting boring because it's just going in circles now. It's Lemmy, it's not real life.

I've made my point very clear several times, so I won't be answering any more questions or replying to direct replies in this thread any longer. It's just going in circles now. Plenty of other things I wanna talk about. Good luck on your journey.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

That’s well and fine, but if your honest opinion is that violence isn’t justified in even the above scenarios, I think you’re living in a fantasy world of idealism.

I get to live how I want to. You get to live how you want to. Good luck on your journey.

I’ll also point out that this wasn’t a case where you were minding your own business and people started calling you out; you were the first one to reply in this comment chain.

I've never inferred anything different. I gave my opinion. People disagree. I'm fine with that. They haven't changed my mind. I haven't changed their mind. According to the modlog, some people went a bit too far and had comments removed for advocating violence. That's how these things go. Lemmy crowdthink has never been subtle about their extremism. Makes no difference in my life whatsoever and doesn't upset me.

I also take comfort in the fact that most here aren't going to do anything violent anyway, regardless of what they say they are going to do or what they'd like to see be done.

Opinions have been made known. I'll stay on my same path. All good.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

You live how you choose to, I'll live the way I choose to. Violence is never the answer. There is no scenario where that will change for me. Not Hitler. Not babies. Not family. etc. And definitely not because of silly downvotes by 26-year old pokemon collecting, gaming-chair warriors on Lemmy.

I gave my opinion. Many disagree. Ok, but I'm still of my same opinion. My life choice. You get to make yours.

Just so you know, I'm not the only pacifist in existence. There are many others like me in the world. Just not on Lemmy! lol

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 week ago

Well, based on your the history of you getting stuff removed, our conversation here is done. I'm now blocking you, so I won't see your reply. Good luck! Looks like you are gonna need it in your life.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

You just had a comment in this thread removed for advocating violence. You trying to get your comments removed for slapfighting too or what? Just move on. wth?! you made your point. I made my point. let it go

It actually uses a variation of LISP. I know old MIT college courses in Computer Science used to teach it.

The book, "How to Design Programs," is based on a variation of LISP, which I know used to be taught in college computer science courses.

I have zero programming experience, but I want to learn—not for a job, just to truly understand it.

A lot of modern advice says to start with Python because it’s easier or faster, but I’m not looking for shortcuts.

I want to go old-school. This book teaches programming with a 1990s-style approach. It may not use the latest tools, but I’ve heard it actually teaches how to think like a programmer and builds real logic skills.

Once I finish it, I plan to take the University of Helsinki’s Java MOOC. Again, sticking to fundamentals and learning the core ideas, not just trendy frameworks.

For context, I’m not naturally a math person either—I’m teaching myself beginning college algebra right now. That’s less about going old-school and more because I never had a college education, so I’m starting from scratch across the board.

So, does this sound like a solid strategy? My goal isn’t a career—just a deep, strong foundation to see if I can really do this.

What do you all think?

The Green party is the #4 largest party with 246,994 members but Dr Jill Stein got 3 votes PER Green party member for 813,066 Stein votes in 2024.

Contrast this with other parties (like the Libertarians) who did not even turn out ONE vote per member.

This is why the Green party is the party MOST WORTH SUPPORTING.

No party (not even Democrats) win 3 votes to every member that they have.

We have the party.

We have the platform.

We have the bylaws.

We have the website.

But we need more than 246,994 members.

Your votes are tripled when you tell your friends & family WHY you voted Green.

Here are DOZENS of very important reasons to vote Green: http://gp.org/platform

First speaker is an environmental science student at Pitt Bradford Willow Sandusky.

2nd is Bradford Ward 3-2 Judge of Elections and Political Science Professor David Fitz (Democrat).

3rd is GPPA Secretary and former Philadelphia Ward 47-14 Inspector of Elections Alex Casper.

4th is GPPA At Large Barbara Laxon.

5th is University of Pittsburgh Political Science Professor Stephen Robar.

There were additional speakers who were students and residents of the Bradford community who took the open mic.

Congratulations everyone! Because of your hard work and Leila Hazou and Richard Weiss's campaign, we are a minor party in Philadelphia and Lehigh counties now.

This means we qualify for special elections in these two counties and have additional rights to prevent non endorsed candidates from using the ballot in these two counties.
