If anything were possible, I have always liked AE van Vogt’s fictional weaponry:

In "The Weapon Shops of Isher", the defensive weapons sold by the shops are advanced ray guns with integrated force fields, making them highly effective against government and criminal threats. These weapons ensure citizens can defend themselves against tyranny and oppression while upholding a policy of non-aggression, aiming to foster a more just government over time.

The weapons can somehow be used to defend but not be used in an act of aggression. And the force field protects the bearer.

A fun read if you are into golden age science fiction.

There are simply too many reasons to say no. How the US treats people entering and leaving the country. How due process is ignored for people within the country.

In broad terms the US is an unkind society. This is not to say that there are not kind individuals, but they are unable to influence the overall norm that is so clearly on display.

You don’t get to cause so many damages to a partner and then suggest we give you another chance. That ship has sailed and I am ready for us to find other trading partners and address our own internal trade barriers.

And making sure the product is a need rather than a want. I have significantly reduced spending since canceling Amazon.

While it doesn’t say much for “previous-me”, I am being more deliberate in my purchases as I look for Canadian options.

Had the exact same thought. Approximately 400km range. If I am interpreting the information correctly, an hour of fast charging gets you 250km or so.

And that for me friends is a wrap. You have summed it up beautifully. For me. High five.

I am going to preface this by saying that this was shared with me by a friend and I am still trying to get my head wrapped around it. I am not an expert or even well read on the subject but do believe that the voting systems in Canada need to change. I post in the interest of building the discussion in this community.

I like single transferrable vote (STV), but it’s unlikely to catch on because it needs number crunching in the backend to apportion the excess votes to (hopefully) improve proportionality. I can see it being accused of corruption by the fact and critical-thinking challenged demographic.

Baden-Württemberg solves that by saying that every riding has two members, one who wins the popular vote, and one who is selected from the runners-up in a manner that best enhances proportionality, but still focuses on the high vote earners.

Mixed member proportional representation (MMR) is too easily gamed by parties to embed unelectable party hacks/loyalists (as experienced in NZ).
