It's still "income" in the sense that it's money comeing in to his account. Only difference is that he didn't even need to do anything to earn it.

We used to tax capital gains at the same rate as income until it was slashed in 2008.

I do wonder what percentage of Linux users reject the survey compared to Windows users. Not that it's changed much, but every little helps right?

I do wish that people could take their health more seriously without being guilt tripped about struggling pubs.

I've been having a lot of fun with scheme lately (specifically guile, but I don't think it matters much). It's a very stripped down language compared to common lisp, so I felt it was easier to get started with.

Could be missing something, but this seems like very reliable card draw in white.

As totally justified as it seems to be in this case, I find the points raised by lawyers about this concerning. Ultimately this is a case of the legislature overruling the judiciary with none of the process that the latter would typically require to make sure it is done properly.

Of course, this is such a gross miscarriage of justice that letting the convictions stand probably did more to undermine faith in the system. But I really wish this could have been sorted out without this breach of separation of powers.

Missing some relevant info here:

  1. The error was that the resolution foundation figure was an estimate for the tax year 2028-29
  2. The two factors that cancel out in this coming year are the rise in personal tax, combined with the cut to national insurance.

I guess the argument would be that software fixes need to be implemented for each ROM separately. Which also involves the pain of decompiling. Yes FPGAs are probably a pain, but they potentially offer perfect emulation of every game.

One thing I'm not sure about is how portable FPGA logic is. If I write a NES emulator in verilog for one FPGA, can that code be reused on a later model if, for example, my FPGA goes out of production?

It's a bit repetitive, but it's not too bad.
