I have pretty much just 3 websites I use regularly (here, youtube, twitch) and some random ones I look up if i need something specific. If I couldn't block ads anymore, I dont think i'll keep using youtube. I don't expect anything meaningful regarding other people outside non-corporate services anyway.

Kaikki tuommoinen yhtiöiden "yrittäjien" palkkaamis hommat pitäisi kieltää, sehän on suoraa työlainsäädännön kiertämistä. Kun halutaan antaa potkut, lakataan vain "ostamasta" palvelua toiselta.

Even if I wanted to be frozen, there is no point. One would have no guarantees that you wouldn't just be thawed and disposed later so the company can sell more stasis slots. Or if they decide to even try to keep their word, they could maintain your stasis so badly that you would die from that or maybe thaw partially occasionally or something. Unless you are billionaire and could afford somekind of insurance that makes sure nothing happens to you, there would be absolutely nothing protecting you.

And even if everything went according to plan, society could collapse in such way maintaining the stasis could become impossible due to lack of resources.

well, the degree of that is also up to other people and how much effort they want to go through

In the end, your mental and physical health should always come before the job. Money isn't that nice if you are stressed wreck. You should still look for other work just so you at least have some options if it ever gets too awful dealing with all the bullshit your current work forces on you. It's probably not going to get much better and any solution regarding disabling/mitigating the current surveillance is likely temporary at best.

Just try to do it in such way your current employer doesn't know about it, just in case they get uppity about it. So use only devices managed by yourself for it and dont talk about it with others working for same employer.

Its understandable though. Even though its also understandable the company would want to know where the trucks are, its also telling the drivers that they dont really trust them to do their job without surveillance. It should be enough that the freight gets delivered within agreed time and not too much fuel is used up in the process.

Personally i would compare the gps to office having sensors that record constantly which room you are occupying. With the ai its like having a camera constantly monitor exactly what are you doing at every given moment. And if you do anything company doesn't like you will be punished. Not only is it insulting, its exhausting having to ceaselessly consider is everything you are doing acceptable to whatever sensible or insensible rules the corporate executives have decided.

People who want to be truckers most likely are kind of people who like working by themselves and not having to answer for every single thing they do at every moment and now even that is being taken away from them.

There must still be some way to defend oneself against oppressive authorities in such way it doesn't cause problems to yourself. Though on second thought it might not be good idea to post detailed ideas on public spaces where those hypothetical authorities can also read them. Its like we are living in beginning of boring cyberpunk dystopia.

What if we "comply" and give them their damn records if they come demanding them.

Gigabytes of data that is just red herrings and stuff that doesn't lead anywhere but still has to be checked. And in formatted in such way it has to be done manually and can't be automated without even bigger effort and cost. If you give it to ai it will just start spouting nonesense or preferrably accusing obviously wrong people. It is likely not possible to make something like that, but it would be great if it was.

Here are some reasons:

  • exclusivity deals, forcing them to drop from steam even after they first announced release on there. They also target crowdfunded games like phoenixpoint.

  • The launcher is spyware

https://www.resetera.com/threads/developing-epic-games-launcher-appears-to-collect-your-steam-friends-play-history-up2-valve-responds-see-threadmarks.105385/

https://forums.unrealengine.com/t/epic-launcher-and-privacy/123592

  • and epic is owned by tencent 40%

  • They not really trying to improve their launcher but instead focus on hurting steam and by extension the users.

Its like some shady guy trying to lure kids to a van by offering free candy.

The launcher is security risk for your system https://www.reddit.com/r/fuckepic/comments/1hm9mh9/epic_games_launcher_had_a_serious_security_flaw/

Even if they have fixed that specific issue, why would you believe they have fixed anything else?

Epic Games Launcher Incorrect Default Permissions Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

CVSS SCORE

7.8

This vulnerability allows local attackers to escalate privileges on affected installations of Epic Games Launcher. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability.

The specific flaw exists within the product installer. The product applies incorrect default permissions to a sensitive folder. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to escalate privileges and execute arbitrary code in the context of SYSTEM.

DISCLOSURE TIMELINE

2024-07-16 - Vulnerability reported to vendor
2024-12-04 - Coordinated public release of advisory
2024-12-06 - Advisory Updated

That timeline is disgusting

So in essence, its not bad because it trys to compete with steam. Its bad because they really dont try to compete and just do anti-user things. And people dont care because "yay free games I'm never going to look at again".

If you want to see what actual competition looks like at the moment, take a look at GOG.
