Capitalism, privatization, passing the buck and the race to the bottom. It’s all related.

You don’t get this when schooling - and the associated transportation - is a social service that has been properly set up. There is no profit motive there, no race to the bottom that enshittifies everything involved.

In a well-funded public school system, drivers would be employed by the school system, have appropriate training and meet high standards, and be paid decently well. They would have the time and the incentive to get to know the students and get things right.

Never been on any Facebook or Instagram video reel, have you? You can’t go 10 reels in before hitting something like this, even if it’s not exactly like this.

If it wasn’t for Marketplace, I would be off Facebook entirely.

But I am not on threads at all, and only get punted over to Instagram with reels that appear on my Facebook account.

Okay, this… is hilarious.

It takes two to tango. No-one is holding a gun to her head or shackling her in chains up to DiCaprio. This is 100% her decision.

And for anyone who then claims, “but she’s not 21, she’s not even legally an adult!!!1!”… how can you possibly call yourself a feminist if you’re going to absolve adult women of personal responsibility? You’re reducing these women to the state of children or the intellectually disabled who cannot make and follow through with decisions of their own, and need to be “taken care of” like cattle or property.

And that is massively misogynistic.

“Trickle down economics only occurs when the wealthy bleed.”

Similar, and appropriate. The working class will only benefit once the wealthy are no longer wealthy.

“Only connections can comment on this post.”

Yeah, they’re clearly butthurt from all the constructive criticism.

My mom isn’t into tech at all, so she has no real tech that needs supporting aside from her TV.

My dad, on the other hand… he’s in his mid-80s, and sliding into Dementia, so I have to be careful and break instructions down into the simplest and easiest-to-remember form as possible. But even with his problems he still takes the time out to google his own issues, find solutions, and if those don’t work he comes to me with his entire workflow for me to look over to see where he went wrong. And then he still tries to absorb what I’ve done to help him.

The dude is 85, with a 5th grade education, suffering from dementia, and he still does better with “struggling with tech” than a majority of people out there.

I am definitely seeing a time when he starts shutting down certain programs for the last time, and eventually even the entire computer, but damn I’m proud of the old fossil.

It’s why I take as long as he needs with whatever problem he has.

Women are often delaying their first child well into their 30s or even 40s

Women who delay into their 40s are highly likely to never have children. Even waiting until the mid-30s dramatically reduces a woman’s chance of ever being able to have children naturally.

Pregnancies after the age of 35 are called “geriatric pregnancies”, because they occur at the very tail end of a woman’s fertile timespan.

Fertility itself starts going down some time between 28 and 32, and really starts plummeting by 40. The medical field considers nearly all women 45 and older to be “functionally sterile”, even though menopause itself may still be years or decades away.

I mean, can a woman get pregnant naturally after the age of 45? As in, without modern medical reproductive assistance in the many tens of thousands of dollars? Sure, but it is vanishingly rare.

Awww… are the violent genocidal colonizers feeling insecure and butthurt?

Where I live, that could buy a parking space.

In the nearest metro region (about 3 hrs away), ten times that amount might buy a parking space. A very sketchy parking space, at that.

Land prices in British Columbia - even way out in the boonies - is totally f**ked.

Men: never go to a female therapist, they will NEVER be able to understand you from a man’s perspective. All they see is abundance, with men chasing them and paying attention to them, and will never understand how few choices those men in the bottom-80% are left with.
