Very helpful reply, thanks for that...

I have little faith in my country's data protection officer who is responsible for handling stuff like this. I had to deal with them while making a complaint about reddit not complying with the GDPR by not allowing me to remove upvotes/downvotes in a reasonable manner, and also after manually deleting all my posts and comments there were still 2 comments that show up on my reddit profile only if it is viewed "signed out" (i.e. from an incognito browser), but not while I am signed in to the account. There is no way to delete them from within my account. The reply I got from them after several months was that since there was no identifiable data in those 2 comments and since after deleting the account it would show up as u/deleted that my case was closed.

The incompetence of my government officials (more so than any other country) would be a laughing matter if I wasn't so angry about the whole situation.

tl;dr: My country's data protection officer and office is a joke and I have lost faith in them to be able to handle anything. I am considering going directly to the Irish DPO if that is who meta ultimately answers to.

This seems to work for now. Thanks

Where can I find a good example of a GDPR compliant email to request any and all my data that they have, to request it to be deleted, and to delete my account?

As a helpdesk guy, this type of issue happens with microsoft office just as often. People tend to memorise where the thing they use everyday is, and any update that changes where it is or how it functions "breaks" their flow of doing their task. We as technical people tend to simply have the skills to use a search engine to find out where it moved/how to solve our problem, but they dont.

While I havent been using libreoffice that long or as intensively as a government enployee would so I cant comment on if its the best OSS office suit for this situation, Im just happy they are starting the switch away from microsoft and CSS and finally waking up.

I was recently made aware of the concept of "rubber ducking". Maybe thats something you were doing without realising

I think MSF is a solely US thing, but there are for sure alternatives here in Europe. At least in my country to get a license you need to complete a certain number of hours with a certificied instructor, and they do teach different skills like body position, emergency braking, slow and high speed maneuvering, as well as eventually taking you out on the roads and practicing in a real commuting scenario.

One thing thats different (not sure if its not a law or its not enforced) is that each instructor will have different equipment. For example when I started lessons before covid cut them short right before my exam my then instructor would take me to a parking lot he had a deal with to use in the evening, and just had cones for exercises. My now instructor after I restarted post covid has a friend who has an events venue with a massive parking lot, cones, and even bluetooth communication devices for the helmets. So now we can communicate while im doing exercises and also while out on the roads... The amount of times I hear him in my ears yelling (in a joking way) "TRAFFIGATOOOOR" before I sheepishy switch it off is too damn high 😂

About the saving/extracting the already existing firmware from my keyboard, could you please give me a very general guide on how to do that, or at least point me in the right direction of searching this stuff up? Whatever path I end up taking, I guess having the default firmware saved is always a plus just in case something goes wrong in the future. As for the remaining part of your comment, I don't think I'll mess about with that too much. I already have fairly easy access to windows PCs at work that I can try this stuff with, I just prefer not having to rely on them too much for personal stuff. I do have ventoy with a windows 10 iso on it, but the rest of what you wrote related to that might as well be Chinese to me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I went to the link you mentioned and saw that indeed my keyboard is compatible, but I have no idea how to proceed from there. I'll probably take the keyboard to work tomorrow where the PCs are windows and give the official software a try, but just for the future if I need it (or if anyone comes across this post and needs help), could you point me in the right direction to learn about what you said? As I said in my OP I'm completely new to this level of keyboard customisation so please be patient with me seeing as I know pretty much nothing about it.

Thanks though!

Some sort of community space, like skate park or exhibition. In the vein of art exhibitions, it could have sections for people to do graffiti

Hey everyone! I currently have an antenna which is a realtek chipset (yuck) that I had to load the drivers myself. Even though I loaded the drivers from this github repo and keep them updated, I'm still getting issues like constant common disconnects, slow speeds (even though on my mobile connected to the same network I may get 6 times the speed), etc... I think I'm ready to pay up and get an antenna that has proper support in Linux, and I found this one after a little bit of searching online: official alfa link.

My question is if this is actually well supported, or even if there is something better I could get (without making me even poorer). What do you guys think, and what are your experiences?

Thanks!

Edit: came back here after a while to edit in case someone comes upon this in the future. I ended up ordering this one: AWUS036NHA fron Alfa. It has the ath9k chipset which is included in the kernel, so it seems like a good choice. Will try to remember to come back after I get it and try it put to give my comments.

Hello everyone.

This semester at uni I'm taking a course which requires me and my group to create a complete software project. Out of the available topics we chose to make an airline ticket booking app, much like skyscanner.com. It is my responsibility to handle the majority of the coding aspect of the project, so I would like your advice.

I would like your thoughts and recommendations on what frameworks/languages/technologies you recommend we use to implement the project. I would like to avoid anything complicated that will take a long time to learn, as I only have a limited number of weeks to deliver. However we do need to be able to have a decent looking frontend, a backend that will allow users to login either as passengers or administrators (them being the ones who manage flights and handle passenger accounts etc.), and passengers should be able to at the very least input a departure city and time, and arrival city and time and get a list of available flights back (the flights don't need to be real-world flights, we can generate that data to simulate the app).

I've checked out pythons flask, but (correct me if I'm wrong) while simple it seems too much so. I would need to handle user authentication, creating and connecting any databases etc. all manually from pretty much scratch. I'm interested in finding that middle ground of simple enough to get up and running with quickly, while not so simple where I need to learn 1000 other things just to get a prototype up and running.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Edit: I asked my professor for advice and as he suggested I decided to go with bootstrap and sqlite. Im still open on suggestions to do the authentications though :)

Hey everyone.

Basically I need to do what the title says. I did have xfce4-power-manager installed and had it set there (had the setting disabled so that it wouldn't suspend after inactive), but xfce4-notifyd was creating problems with dunst which I installed and setup last night, so I removed xfce4-power-manager and xfce4-logind.

However now after a few minutes of not doing anything my PC sleeps. There must be a setting somewhere I can edit which is the same thing xfce4 uses to implement this, no? Either a file or another power manager software which will not cause problems with my dunst.

Thanks in advance for all your help and suggestions!

Hello guys.

This semester at uni I'm taking a Network Fundamentals course which is basically Cisco's Introduction to Networks course (we're literally doing just that). Im wondering how applicable and if so in what ways it is to real life situations where one might want to setup their own home network. I realise that if you don't use cisco equipment the commads will be different, but if we consider the fundamental knowledge, will what I learn doing this course help me in the future when I will be setting up my own "server room"?

Thanks! 😁

Hey everyone. As the title suggests, I use bspwm, with xfce4-power-manager and sddm installed. I have the power manager setup that I can hibernate/suspend (still a bit confused as to the differences between the two but its besides the point) everytime I hit a button on my keyboard to "sleep" I get the popup below:

I'm not aware what application is stopping the sleep, nor if it is something I should worry about, but if I click Yes then my system goes to sleep. Hitting any key after that wakes it up, without me having to enter any password. I know there is software I can install and setup to do that function, but I was wondering if there is any way I can configure xfce4-power-manager to use sddm as the "locker" program, so that it takes me to the sddm login page when waking.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I just tried to sleep and this time this is the popup that appeared:

Basically the title. Is there anything that my instance admin needs to do so I can login?

Hey everyone. So Last night there was a general problem with my building's network connectivity. This morning my landlord let me know it was fixed, which it was. I verified this from my mobile phone as well as the laptop I am using right now to write this post. However on my fairly new and hence barebones desktop running arch, I simply cant get NetworkManager to connect or even in some cases see any wifi networks.

This morning, it would occasionally show me the available networks, I would try to connect to my one which would work, but I would for all intents and purposes not have internet until a few minutes later the connection would drop. Now it doesn't even show any available networks.

Below are the outputs of some commands I thought would be useful. Of course it's probably not a comprehensive list so please do ask if you would like me to run and show the output of another command, just know I need to redirect it to a file and then transfer it here with a usb so its a bit tedious.

Hello everyone. I wrote this command in the terminal directly and got the desired and expected output - that being the last 50 occurrences of me installing or removing a package with pacman or yay: history | grep -e 'pacman -S\s' -e 'pacman -R\s' -e 'yay -S\s' -e 'yay -R\s' | tail -n 50 > ~/history_installed

I now want to make this runnable as a script for obvious reasons, but when add it to a script and run it I get the following error: /home/user/.bin/check_installed.sh:fc:3: no such event: 1

Here is my entire script:

#!/bin/zsh

{history | grep -e 'pacman -S\s' -e 'pacman -R\s' -e 'yay -S\s' -e 'yay -R\s' | tail -n 50} > ~/history_installed

Note: /home/user/.bin is in my path. Verified by successfully running another script in there from a different location.

Please help me figure this out if you could. I am running zsh with oh-my-zsh. Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone. So I am running bspwm with sxhkd, and while keybindings set by default work (i.e. super + enter opens terminal which I changed to alacritty) I can't seem to be able to add any new ones - at least that will work.

I've looked into it extensively and the majority of the posts seems to be talking about locales and keyboard layouts, but I can't seem to find anything wrong with my ones (of course I only have two eyes, so your input is appreciated). The classic is the super + space trying to run the program launcher, in my case rofi which does nothing (running rofi -show drun from terminal directly works correctly). Here is the output of the localectl status command, but of course I will provide output for any you request:

$ localectl status
System Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
    VC Keymap: uk
   X11 Layout: gb

My .xinitrc contains the following lines:

...
localectl set-x11-keymap gb
systemctl --user import-environment DISPLAY
...

I start bspwm from my .xinitrc, and sxhkd from bspwmrc using the following line:

pgrep -x sxhkd > /dev/null || sxhkd &

Any ideas on what I can do? Any commands you need me to run? As I said in the title, I'm at my wit's end.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT (ADDED CONFIG FILE LINK): https://pastebin.com/uknPbrjj

Edit2: came back to say after a system update it just works normally

Hey everyone. I'm thinking of maintaining an iso for my setup once I have that the way I like it. I wouldn't publish it so it would just be for me.

How easy would that be to do? Would it just be a case of rebuilding the iso every week/month to get the updated packages in it, or is there more to it?

Thanks!
