I know lemmy hates Apple, but if you want a phone where an advertising company isn’t constantly spying on everything you do and don’t want to fiddle with installing a different OS, it’s amazing.

Ignorance is truly bliss, isn't it?

https://searchads.apple.com/

All the weird privacy invasive things like Siri (which I aways have disabled), image recognition/search, FaceID, and all that are on-device and send no data out

Did you check their source code? monitored their network traffic with mitm proxy? or just believed what Apple told ya?

Wanna try another talking point you "heard" to feel better about using Apple?

Loop habit tracker (2.2.0), but if you have Play store, it will bug you to update the app there, because the playstore version somehow has a newer version number (2.2.1).

If users wanted updates from Play Store, they would install the app from the Play Store.

People follow these "sciencey" accounts to think they're getting a bite sized scientific content but very few will actually fact check. And these account make money from people who think they've gotten smarter or have some lesser known facts.

They're actually just hoping to make money off of anything from simple stuff to nonsense to drive engagement with a "plausible deniability" by saying it was just for "entertainment".

Fox News style of appearing "authentic" but for the money's sake.

"Hey it's in our name, "low quality" we aren't actually fact checking anything at all. Too bad you appeared like a dumbass to your friend"

The world as a whole should cut off US hegemony on tech, social media, and news out of existence.

Lesson to be learned from the last 2 decades is that we also should not let any other country (China or anyone else) hold so much power in shaping a one sided narrative.

Fediverse is a step in that direction. Hopefully it succeeds.

Wealthy western countries lead in global oil and gas expansion…. and propagandize that other countries are the problem for climate change and absolve themselves, as always.

With so many projects in the graveyard, It's truly a mystery why people don't want to commit to using Google products.

Handing it off to someone creates a whole new set of second hand responsibility, if the new maintainers go on to add something malicious.

a la: xz backdoor

The creator was shunned until everyone figured out he had handed it off to someone else.

If someone wants to continue, they can always fork it.

Zionists when they hear about the genocide they're causing.

That's not the definition of a genocide.

Zionists when they hear "antisemitism" also includes the rest of the semitic people.

No that just means the jews.

Fuck off with the two-face rhetoric pushing agendas and twisting meaning of the words that only fit a single narrative. We know whatever you're going to say is going to sound like you're always right.

Nobody should get a pass to cause a genocide because it's doesn't live up to your requirement for violence. Be better.

Then we'll make our own fedi-services with blackjack and hookers, someday… One can dream.

People don't realize how much of reddit content is made by bot farms and advertising agencies, propaganda outlets with bots to spare. Which is what's keeping the normies entertained, not the nerds, not the niche community of a few thousand people.

People like the one you're replying to always are so sure their echo chamber is right when reality is like complete opposite. Most people on reddit are lurkers and not terminally online people. They just want to scroll and fucking waste time. Community, subs and their mods or rules be damned.

They don't care if the cat videos are on a banana sub. they'll happily upvote and scroll away while the terminally online will start complaining why the post is not fit, a repost, or against the rules for 100s of time. And as always, once they leave, they think it is dead.
