You're absolutely right, I've learned to stay away from productivity hacks online! I was working with a counselor which helped, but as most things go, it's hard to keep up with appointments. I'm a business owner and have two kids so I get busy and overwhelmed and self-care tends to take a hit.

Yeah I like that idea of taking out my pre-filled cards.

I came to a startling realization this morning while getting ready to start my day. I plan my day around various contingencies because I know that if I don't feel like doing a task, nothing will stop me from not doing it. It's like I live in fear of myself like I'm some sort of moody army general and I have to work around my own impulsiveness. I take adderall and that helps me to focus but most of my adhd problems are things that I'm not sure medicine will help. Has anyone successfully gotten at least a little handle on their productivity? How did you do it?

I'll also explain what made me come to this realization. I had the thought, "thank God I've been in mood to be frugal recently, I'm scared of when that feeling goes away and I start spending money on stupid shit again" So yeah, impulsivity is a problem πŸ˜…

Why can't you just unplug it? If you have to go to the socket anyway... maybe I don't understand because I've never lived with the convenience?

I'm an American and had no idea what you were talking about so I did some research and holy shit. I didn't even know Rupert Murdoch had that kind of control. I think I'll pay more attention to global news from now on. I've been trying to but apparently not enough.

Yes, I recently created a Pixelfed account and I definitely balked at the "pick and instance" step. When I joined lemmy (using connect) it didn't ask me to pick an instance to create an account with and eased me into the idea of the fediverse. As a reddit refugee that only left because of morals, I absolutely felt like a fish out of water but I persisted. Others don't wish to persist with something confusing or different. One one hand, that's fine with me, I don't want to share a platform with people like that anyway. On the other hand, if it's not at least a little popular and easy to swallow for new users, growth will be impacted.

I'm a professional photographer which is sort of tech adjacent to people that don't know much about tech so I get this too which is funny because my brothers career is based around helping people with their tech problems and they think I know just as much as he does because we both "work with computers"

My 33 year old husband does this. He went to an extremely rural school and they taught him to do this in computer class in high school. Drives me insane and it took me years to convince him it's not correct any more. He works in an industry where most people are older so I guess nobody really notices or cares.

I'm a wedding photographer, a few months back I had a pooping dog behind a bride and groom and you better believe I took pictures! We all had a pretty good laugh about it especially because it was a private wedding venue and even the venue owners had no idea where the random dog came from but he just popped and disappeared lol

Hopped back into Octopath (the first one) after finishing Sea of Stars. It's a honker of a game haha I feel like it's going to take me a while.

I really like this idea. At least for until they each have enough friends to warrant two separate birthday weekends

[–] polarpear11@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

I'm thinking this will probably be the last year they will want their party together. They go to an extremely small school and know a lot of the same kids so it never feels disjointed but I also want them to get the special birthday treatment most kids enjoy. Another commenter suggestion of one party in the am and one in the pm could be a good compromise for this year though.

Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts

My kids are young and their birthdays are exactly 3 years and 1 day apart. We have their birthday parties together for now because they are still young (turning 4 and 7) they also get along and don't mind at all sharing a birthday party.

When making invitations should I put that it's a joint birthday party? I don't want parents to feel obligated to get something for both kids but I also don't want them to feel bad that they didn't know and didn't get something for the other kid. How should I word the invitations?

I just received what I thought was going to be a tiny cute air plant for this tiny cute container I bought. What I received instead is this massive, glorious, curly plant that is 1.5 feet tall. While I'm trying to figure out what to do with it, I've researched and vowed to take care of this super cool air plant that is already growing purple blooms. I'm wondering if there's a specific air plant community or like, something adjacent to that? I'd really rather not get back on reddit to learn about air plants and connect with other air plant people. What are some cool communities I might be missing out on?

Cheers!
