On May 23rd, the host community in Gorom Camp began pushing hard for our removal. We've faced constant hostility as trans refugees called devils, told we go against their culture but now it’s escalated. When conflict erupted in the area, they warned the UNHCR that they would "take matters into their own hands." That threat has now turned into action.

UNHCR and government officials recently held a general meeting and told us not to return to the camp “before anything worse happens.” Those still hiding in the camp were given only 10 days to leave, and they were clear: transgender people like me would be the first targets We were once attacked at our shelter . No one was held accountable. That was when we fled to Juba, seeking safety. But Juba is unaffordable. We’ve been surviving at a local church, barely getting by and now even thinking of going back to the camp seemed like an option… until this.

I’m tired. I’m scared. I’m doing my best to stay strong for my sisters, but it’s hard. We’re being forced out again with nowhere to go. I’m sharing this because I believe in solidarity. I believe someone out there will care.

I’m tired. I’m scared. I’m doing my best to stay strong for my sisters, but it’s hard. We’re being forced out again with nowhere to go. I’m sharing this because I believe in solidarity. I believe someone out there will care.

But we’re still in crisis. I’m a trans refugee in South Sudan, living with three of my trans sisters. We are under direct threat.

Days ago, UNHCR and CRA told us in a public meeting that we must leave the camp within 10 days due to ongoing war “for our own safety” because we are visibly trans. That deadline is nearly up and the violence is escalating.

Three days ago, a group of men armed with sticks, machetes, and stones attacked us. One of my sisters was seriously injured. The rest of us ran barefoot, terrified. We barely survived.

Now we are trying to get to Juba to seek shelter in a guesthouse, but we have no funds.

Here’s what we urgently need:

We are scared, displaced, and completely isolated. We are asking for mutual aid not charity, but survival through solidarity.

I am a trans refugee living in South Sudan, alongside my trans sisters all of us surviving under systems of violent transphobia, displacement, and state oppression. Recently, UNHCR and the Commission for Refugee Affairs met with us in our camp (Gorom Settlement). The message was chilling the South Sudanese government has given us, the visible queer and trans community, an ultimatum: leave the camp within 10 days or face escalation of violence. We have nowhere safe to go. And today, that violence began a group of armed attackers brutalized one of my trans sisters and terrorized us. We narrowly escaped with our lives. The whole camp knows we are being targeted. We are isolated, vulnerable, and terrified. Myself and three trans sisters are now trying to flee to Juba — to find even temporary safety. We are seeking support to cover transport, food, and safe shelter. Every dollar helps us stay alive and out of immediate danger.

I am a trans refugee living in South Sudan, along with my trans sisters. We are facing an escalating crisis due to the ongoing war and targeted violence against LGBTQ+ people. A few days ago, UNHCR and the Commission for Refugee Affairs (CRA) held a security meeting in our camp. During this meeting, we were told in front of other refugees and host community members that the queer community, especially visible trans women like us, must leave the camp within 10 days for our own safety. Since then, the situation has worsened. Today around 11:30 AM, unknown attackers armed with sticks, stones, and machetes assaulted us. One of my trans sisters was seriously injured. The rest of us narrowly escaped with our lives. We are terrified and completely isolated. Me and three of my trans sisters are now trying to reach Juba to seek temporary safety in a guesthouse or motel but we have no funds to get there or to sustain ourselves. Estimated Needs:

UNHCR and the south sudanese government told all refugees at gorom camp that we have 10 days to leave the country peacefully but for trans people like us, this feels like a death sentence. soldiers who used to guard us are now telling us to run for our lives. armed men have already harassed queer women near our shelter. other refugees are watching us, counting down the days we have left. we have nowhere safe to go and no protection. me and three other trans women are trying to reach juba to find any temporary safe place a guesthouse, a hotel, a room — where we can hide and stay alive.

I’m Onandrah, a trans refugee and human rights defender stuck in Gorom Settlement Camp in South Sudan. I fled Uganda after the anti-gay bill was passed, thinking I’d find safety, but life here is brutal. As a trans person living with HIV/AIDS in a refugee camp, survival is a daily fight food is scarce, healthcare is almost nonexistent, and support is hard to come by.
