I take the expression more as a warning to control it so it does not impact my mental health too much. Getting (properly) informed is good, but if I get so depressed that I can't act positively on the system anymore or I make it worse for me and others, then it becomes counter-productive.

Maybe your view of human communication is a bit restrictive.
I think people using social media less and having more real life hobbies where they meet real people would do good for everyone.
Also, "public demonstrations are scary" culture. You have to register, the parade is cut into small blocks of about 50 m and at least 50 m apart, no music trucks, a lot of the groups represent specific corporations, the traffic is not cut so it has to cohabit with the cars, managed by ropes and whistling copes. Kinda asphyxiating compared to western parades. But well, it's Japan, the fact that it can happen, even in this form, is a win.
