I read that the reason for this is because a) humans (and hominids in general) evolved in parts of Africa where the climate is much less seasonal than places like north america, so having a mating season is less useful and b) humans are a k-selection species with relatively few offspring but a relatively high amount of energy invested into developing and raising them. In particular, humans offspring require multiple years to become self-sufficient, so it doesn’t really matter what time of year humans give birth
