You are so right. My most downvoted comment on Piefed ever was about how Trump might be doing something out of pure greed instead of just stupidity, and I was called a "moron" for thinking that Trump was capable of something other than imbecility.

He is the very personification of greed. And tariffs give him a perfect vehicle to screw everyone over so he can make money whenever he wants. We say, TACO, he chickened out. He still makes money on the announcement of a change in tariffs. In fact he makes money when he announces AND when he withdraws the change.

It's odd the author doesn't even bring up the legal aspect of US providers having their own ideas of what acceptable businesses are, linking the payment system to US national law and moral expectations. I honestly can't help but thinking that the different media diet nowadays is also a driver of reduced alcohol consumption. If you watch traditional TV and movies, alcohol and drinking are absolutely everywhere and invariably normalized as part of everyday life. Kid has problem in school? Mom drinks a glass of wine. Getting promoted at work, everyone a round of scotch. Vacation doesn't count if there are no umbrella drinks.

I fully agree with you: a lot of people shouldn't be on the roads. I am not blaming the need for speed, though. Even in places like Burlingame, with a decent public transportation system, people that shouldn't be on the road and even people that don't want to be on the road are forced to be there because it's near impossible to get from A to B without a car.
