No, it's client side sorted.
Sort order is user specific, not controlled by the instance.
FWIW I tried an hour later and it worked. Not sure if something was fixed in the back end.

Here in WA, the focus needs to be on getting the power grid under control. There is currently not enough gas power generation... resulting in dirty diesel generators being spun up.
Given the WA grid can't handle current power demands, I don't think we'll be in a position to disconnect household gas for quite some time ☹
I like their sense of humour. The definitely don't take themselves too seriously.
sh.itjust.works appear to be running lemmy 0.17.4 still. 0.18-rc6 came out today, which seems to have resolved that issue for me.
