I suggest we name them after the executives rather than the corporations.

I wasn't necessarily calling you an asshole, it's just a quote that represents what the other commenter was talking about.

To answer your initial question, I haven't personally noticed Lemmy being more toxic than other platforms like it. Most conversations I've had have been pleasant. But I tend to avoid commenting on hot button topics. You commented on a topic that people feel strongly about and got angry comment replies. I wouldn't say that necessarily represents the site as a whole. But both of our experiences are anecdotal so it's difficult to say which is more common.

"If you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you're the asshole."

so how would a smart person react to this?

I would just start working the same way they do. If you're the only one with that work ethic and picking up their slack you're probably enabling them to be lazy because they know it will get done. If things stop getting done in a timely manner someone higher up may notice and do something about it then hopefully everyone will have to start contributing again. Also might be worth talking to your boss about it.

I'm not sure how common this situation is, but I'd assume different places have different work cultures. Looking for another job is a good idea, hopefully you'll find a place that's a better fit.

Probably wouldn't be difficult either, there is a "Bot" check box for accounts so they should all be marked that way. Maybe if I get some motivation I'll do a pull request.

Lemmy suggestion: Don't show bot comments in the total comments on a post. Way too many posts I open only to find it's just this fact checker bot.
