Let me answer that. We need a hidden underground forum that doesn't autoblock any subject heading that ends in a question, one that allows Tor and VPN log ins, one without a stupid Reddit CQS (Contributor Quality Score) that rates experienced posters with tens of thousands of karma points as "low quality" just for logging in from an ip address Reddit doesn't like or for having an email address that doesn't end in yahoo, gmail or outlook.com. One where you don't have to PM a moderator and beg them to allow your post, one without bots (created by Reddit and moderators here) crawling for reasons to block your post, one that doesn't censor free speech, one that doesn't have moderators who get lost in the weeds telling us that according to section 5, subsection A, paragraph 4, line 57, this or that subject is off topic "but I'll allow it anyway", losing sight of the fact that monero is supposed to be about freedom. How about one that won't get rid of PMs and force chat upon us in June? Lastly, how about a forum where we won't have to jump through all of these hoops for the privilege of having all of the great knowledge of our discussions here (that we provide to Reddit for free) be sold to Google for millions of dollars to train Gemini, their LLM AI.

Oh, and one that doesn't kill 3rd party apps.

So are we all stupid for remaining here? I think so. The only reason I'm still here is because 345,601 other XMR users refuse to migrate to monero.town or some other place and this is the only place my posts get any real exposure.

If anyone having this same problem finds their way here, this is the script to upgrade to Haveno Retoswap v. 1.1.0. Run it in regular Terminal, not Root Terminal right next to amnesia@amnesia:~$

It takes about 10 min to install and the Terminal looks like it's frozen during the install but it's not. Here's the script:

curl -fsSLO https://raw.githubusercontent.com/XMRZombie/haveno/refs/heads/tails/scripts/install_tails/haveno-install.sh && bash haveno-install.sh https://github.com/retoaccess1/haveno-reto/releases/download/1.1.0/haveno-v1.1.0-linux-x86_64-installer.deb DAA24D878B8D36C90120A897CA02DAC12DAE2D0F

An attempt at solving the problem on one’s own is often of great value, a great way to learn, even if it’s unsuccessful

I agree, and perhaps I didn't emphasize it enough, but I tried every script I could think of before coming here.

Imho (quite) a few users ditched monero.town when they had started blocking Tor.

Yeah, and the blocks of Tor and VPN by Reddit are even worse. I HATE Reddit with a passion (censorship, bots, using our posts to train their AI and sell it to Google and now CQS which punishes you even for connecting in a non-AML/KYC way ) and wish the entire community would just migrate here or somewhere else. Too bad the Tor DDOS issue here can't be solved.

I didn't know there was a v1.1.0 released. Thanks, I'll check it out. At least someone around here is helpful.

[–] ksilverstein@monero.town 1 points 2 months ago

I don't believe I'm one of them, but if you comment was referring to me, I don't appreciate it any more than monerobull's comment telling Tails users to fuck off.

I come here looking for help with the script and this is your response? Maybe this is why no one ever posts here. Newsflash you arrogant ass: there are lots of Tails users having trouble with v.1.0.19 right now because the github file has changed from deb.zip to an installer file. Changing out the version number in the sudo command has worked for me up until now but no longer. I've I've been using Tails for 8 years, do not like Qubes, and your disrespectful assumptions about me being some kind of schizo moron who needs to be spoonfed aren't appreciated. If you think it's strange to want to use Retoswap on Tails, you obviously know nothing about true Opsec. Nevermind, sorry I asked for help. Until now I thought you were a helpful and useful member of the Monero community. I'll just switch to openmonero.co and XMRglobal. And I'll say it again. If you want adoption of Retoswap by more than just a few, Retoswap shouldn’t make it mandatory to upgrade in order to trade until all of us in the privacy community are covered.

Yeah, I'm surprised that monerobull hasn't chimed in on this yet with the way he supports it so much. Retoswap shouldn't make it mandatory to upgrade in order to trade until all bases are covered, i.e. Tails users.

I’m having trouble installing v1.0.19 on Tails. This is the command I’m using. Can anyone figure out what I’m doing wrong? It keeps saying “Failed to download Haveno binary”.

amnesia@amnesia:~$ curl -x socks5h://127.0.0.1:9050 -fsSLO https://github.com/haveno-dex/haveno/raw/master/scripts/install_tails/haveno-install.sh && bash haveno-install.sh https://github.com/retoaccess1/haveno-reto/releases/download/v1.0.19/haveno-v1.0.19-linux-x86_64-installer.deb DAA24D878B8D36C90120A897CA02DAC12DAE2D0F

monerobull, can you help me with figuring out what's wrong with the script I've posted above so that I can download v1.0.19 onto Tails?

Maybe I don't understand fully, but if I sell a voucher for 1 XMR on Amazon, Amazon will know that I sold it with my real identity, right? Or are you saying to try to sell it with a fake Amazon account?

[–] ksilverstein@monero.town 2 points 4 months ago

Because you can't use those 3 sites to on-ramp, only to swap.

[–] ksilverstein@monero.town 2 points 4 months ago

Ok, thanks for the info.

XMRGlobal owns DMSwap. XMRGlobal appears to still be in beta testing for 2 more weeks but DMSwap appears to be live. I just want people here to know that these are out there. I have never used them, but they look promising. As always, use caution and small amounts if you try these out.

From their websites:

XMRGlobal is an anonymous, privacy-focused platform designed for P2P trading of Monero (XMR). It provides escrow services and facilitates safe, secure exchanges without KYC, logs, or JavaScript. XMRGlobal operates to protect user privacy and ensure seamless transactions within the Monero ecosystem. Features

Anonymous: No KYC or registration required. Escrow Services: Secure trades with escrow for buyer and seller protection. P2P Trading: Allows users to trade Monero directly, peer-to-peer. Privacy-Focused: No logs, no tracking, full anonymity.

There's a Telegram bot as well.

And here's their introduction on Reddit from a couple of months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/1h5peos/xmrglobal_now_live/

For example, right now XMR is $215 USD/XMR, but there's an offer listed at $210/XMR and another one at $213/XMR. This seems to happen relatively frequently. Anyone know why this is?

It looks like you can both buy and sell XMR via cash by mail on this exchange. Does anyone know anything about it? It's not listed on kycnot.me and I don't see it mentioned here or in the Reddit r/monero sub.

I'm just starting to learn Haveno. When you hover the cursor over the seller, all you get is a "Maker's onion address". I realize that the whole purpose of Haveno is for both buyers and sellers to be anonymous, but I'd be more likely to use the service if I recognized the name of a trusted seller from localmonero. I know several of them are trading on Haveno, but I can't tell who is who. So I guess I'm asking if there is a way to find the trusted seller's online moniker if they care to divulge it for the purpose of buyers being able to choose a seller based on their localmonero reputation.

I know there was a ddos attack a while back, but it would be nice to access and be able to log in to this site again using Tails/Tor without giving location away. Using a VPN after Tor on Tails is a security risk and is difficult to figure out how to install on Tails for most people. Beginning with it's creation and right up to the attack, Tor exit nodes weren't blocked. Now they still are. Opening it up again might increase the userbase. Using sites like proxysite.com via Tor only works to read posts here about 1 out of 10 attempts and never allows log ins here.

Does Cake Pay Web block Tor exit nodes? I keep getting a pink error message that says "Use from this IP address is not allowed".I'm just checking it out for the first time at buy.cakepay.com and I've tried connecting unsuccessfully from multiple different Tor ip addresses. If so, doesn't this run contrary to their logstanding support of privacy and anonymity?

It's about time all the lies caught up to CZ. My only regret abot this is that he won't be SBF's cell mate.

I got one good answer in r/localmonero, but I thought I'd seek other opinions here.

I don't want to use my own address. If I put some random fake "From" address and there's a problem with the seller receiving the package, will USPS try to return it to that address and then I lose the cash? Just wondering what the rest of you guys are doing to remain anonymous when using cash by mail to buy monero.

3 anonymous shipping label services are listed below:

https://altcoinpostage.com/ https://cryptopostage.info/ https://cryptostamps.biz/

BTW, https://coinship.pro, which advertised itself on r/monero and is still listed on monerica.com, now seems to be defunct.
