I strongly prefer the "monster of the week" episodes of X Files to the story arc stuff.

The self contained episodes were fun and had a defined beginning, middle and end.

Alien3, even the theatrical version, was fine IMO (although the special edition is much better), I referenced Alien3 because it seems to often be particularly disliked (almost more than Resurrection or perhaps more passionately?).

I don't know about setting per se, but IMO Resurrection is way better than E01/E02 with the Peter Pan stuff and Hermit the plot armour brother.

I thought Resurrection was fine too, weaker than Alien3, but a good experience overall. I liked Romulus more than Resurrection too, but that doesn't mean Resurrection is bad.

We'll see how it goes, I am going to watch E03, but I am not at all optimistic.

I still don't understand how E02 has a 8.0 on IMDB. That's higher than Cronenberg's The Fly which has a 7.6 (The Fly is a classic of horror).

I never watch trailers or read preview articles. Going in I only knew that part of the story involved an alien infested ship crashing on earth and that Hawley was the showrunner (I didn't necessarily think this was a good thing even though I like Fargo).

You have a fair point regarding watching the whole thing before making up one's opinion.

My counter arguement would be that as per the first two episodes, this is the only Alien production where I just can't seem to get interested in what's going on. It's not engaging.

I can't say that about any of the Alien movies, even the theatrical version of Alien3.

I had mixed feelings about 28 Years Later, but I liked that they tried something new and it was not a by the book sequel. It has a lot of flaws though.

I am interested in watching the sequel, hopefully they've addressed some of the flaws with 28YL.

I am a big fan of Fargo, but IMO the strengths of Fargo don't really translate to a regular scifi series. And this is definitely a regular scifi series, it's not like a very subtle parody of the concept or some sort of crazy attempt at deconstructing the concept.

Watched E02; it's largely more of the same; if anything there are now even more lame elements to the concept compared to E01.

They put in too much effort into making it edgy, quirky and YA-compatible with the Peter Pan stuff.

In principle, I think the main concept (alien infested ship crash landing on earth) is solid and even the Peter Pan stuff could be fine.

The problem is the execution. The kids act like generic types in a high production sci-fi action streaming show. It would be far more interesting and unique if there was an element disorientation and introspection (as a prelude to their rebellion).

I couldn't take the Kirsh character seriously. I can't be the only one who thought he was (unintentionally) funny.

The boy trillionaire character is pretty unconvincing and reeks of lazy attempts at edginess. Caricatures are fine, but you need to set the tone of the story to make it work.

I will probably keep watching, but I am going to change how I approach the series. Treating the series as an unintentional parody with sci-fi Peter Pan in a Disney executive's lobotomization of a dystopian cyberpunk that just happens to infested by aliens seems the right way forward.

I just hope there will be (unintentional) comedy.

P.S. I will happily admit that I was wrong and that I am a overly picky snob (not true, I like the Maze Runner series) if it gets better in the subsequent episodes. It's not happening!

Just some feedback: the four nearly identical panels are a bit distracting (and IMO undermine the concept).

While I haven't seen Supernatural (might have to check it out), by 2005 I had seen a lot of the classics and some of the more modern releases (I was in my mid-teens then).

Honestly, if you are going the Linux route, you might as well get a headless Linux setup (no GUI, just command line), install qbittorrent-nox and access qbitborrent via the webUI.

You will save a massive amount of RAM, desk space and probably even CPU time.

It's solid entertainment if you're are into horror, it's lofi, but fun.

There are always other (relatively accessible) sources if no can be bothered to offer the movie. And also DVDs and Bluerays.

I watched 28 Years Later at home a few days ago.

I can’t seem to make up my mind about 28 Years Later. It wasn’t bad by any means, but there were definitely issues with the movie.

I will start with the undeniably good things. Excellent cinematography. So many beautiful shots. I also liked that they tried to do something different. It’s good that they didn’t just make a predictable sequel (even if it would’ve been fun).

I found many of the plot elements to be distracting. The alpha concept seemed tacked on. I didn’t like the “young adult” concept, seemed unbelievable for a 12 year old to act in this way.

Not sure what to make of the humourous elements, they were clearly there by design (satire?). I laughed when the kid put his mother’s skull on the skull pile.

For some reason I get the feeling 28 Years Later will get more appreciation with time. I might be wrong though.

Never heard about this. I like historical 60s and 70s movies (less so contemporary ones; for the time). Might have to check it out.
