Never start a fight, but always finish it.

I would create my own Groundhog Day set up. Start learning task A. After 47 hours, fly around the earth to rewind time. Learn for another 47 hours. Repeat process. Learn infinity tasks and become a master at everything. On the last loop win the heart of Andie MacDowell.

As a child, I loved the x files. I wanted a cool name for AOL. Thought I was clever picking the character Deep Throat, I was so cool. Didn't realize till later what it also meant.

If we are going into books, the Hyperion series should have ended at 2. The first 2 books are so good! Books 3 and 4 are terrible.

So episodes 1 through 4 then stop watching?

I don't think so, these numbers are population averages and the relationship probably doesn't apply at the individual level. Also humans don't tend to follow this rule as closely due to things like medicine.

Mammals generally get 1.5 billion heart beats in their lifetime regardless of size.

How big is that in baby giraffes?

My store bought favorites are chili garlic Cholula and the green tabasco. I also make my own (commented on another reply about what)

I also make my own. I've tried a lot of different peppers and random ingredients. I think my favorite was a mango habanero (fermented with mango and some other goodies, also added some fresh mango at the end before blending and pasteurizing). I also made a few fun fermented sauces with those dried chilies you can get in bags from the grocery store, added some fresh ingredients like carrot and onion to get the ferment going.

This has actually lit a fire under me. I built a PC maybe 10 years ago and put windows on it out of laziness. It's been fine at what I need but it's age does show. I've been hemming and hawing about what to do next but I'm lazy and put it off.

Now with Windows 10 losing support it forces my hand to finally do something. I ended up ordering a desktop from System76 just today (won't be my first experience with Pop). After I transition all my day to day stuff to that new PC I'm going to wipe my windows box and test other Linux distros with it. So I'm relieved and excited that Microsoft has made my decision for me!

The hard thing for me will be deciding what to do with my Microsoft Surface Go (first Gen I think). I see some guides online to switch those to Linux but it seems more challenging for my level of experience. It'll probably be my next project.

Hi, I've been fiddling with PopOS the past year on an old laptop and I like it. I'm getting ready to convert my windows 10 desktop to Pop and leave windows behind entirely, before I do I want to be sure I understand a few security concepts.

I've read suggestions that say don't run as root, create a separate user account and only use root when necessary. Do you give that user account sudo privileges? If so, is that any different from just being root?

Also I've installed the ufw firewall but left it with default settings. Is that something I need to look into more?

Thanks in advance!

I really enjoyed The Hyperion Cantos, and the first few Dune books I read a long time ago (may reread these now). Can anyone recommend some other books (or series) along these lines? Huge stories on an epic scale, space battles, cool future tech, etc.

Very cool application of LLM to screen potential protein-drug interactions.

Pretty cool demo

Interesting article, I wonder how much longer new language models will be detectable like this.
