lmao, got a throwback to when Apps for monitoring your sleep were a new craze. You‘d put your mobile on your bed and see a graph of your movements the next day with wake and deep sleep times highlighted and stuff.

While mine was kinda active with a lot movement, my roommate just fucking flatlined for 8 hours. Not a single spike in that graph. I was in awe

The silver-ish thing on top is probably that tool some people use to get the inner kernel out of apples.

The OOP just shoved a pickle through it, I guess

Ahh, another perfect chance to link to my favourite role model of history: Roland the Farter

In Germany, we do have some nicknames especially for tapwater: I personally know of Leitungsheimer, Kranwasser and Kraneberger

Nothing Phones (as well as their subbrand CMF) is supported by Lineage iirc. They offer a lot bang for your buck

How do you backup important things you store in selfhosted clouds?

I’m currently thinking about hosting Ente myself for syncing all my pictures. Maybe also spinning up nextcloud for various other shared files. However, for me one main benefit of using services like iCloud is the mitigated risk of losing everything in case the hardware fails (and fire, theft, water-damages, …).

Do you keep regular updates on hosted services? Do you keep really important stuff on other providers? Do you have other failsafes?

There is also a zsh-Plugin for the fuck. That way you can just double hit esc and zsh… uhm… fucks… automatically for you

Still is less typing tho

I want to move away from Google and was ready to make the shift to proton exactly the day before all that drama started about the CEO being a trump bootlicker and stuff…

Then I looked into some alternatives and haven’t moved yet. So I really can’t decide which one from tuta, Mailbox, kSuite or maybe still proton provides the best service. And recommendations or experiences y’all want to share to help me decide? :)

Either a good UI (web/iOS) or very good compatibility with third party apps, good spamfilters and maybe an integrated calendar would be important features.

The cat might know your name though! Cats learn the names of other animals and humans in their household.

Yeah, reminds me of a video I once saw: having an empty can on your desk and using one of those electronic lighters on it makes the display reset for some seconds.

HDMI isn’t shielded that well and the shocked can shortly acts as an antenna, sending gibberish signals that get picked up by the display.

Not really related to selfhosting per se, but two things come to my mind:

  • Anytype is kinda like obsidian, but with a different approach. Every object is of some type and those can be searched, filtered etc in collections and sets - based on tags, attributes, … IIRC there even is a pre-made type „bookmark“ for links and documents.
  • As of a workflow: for stuff like this I really feel that a „simplified“ GTD-approach works best for me - dump everything into an „inputstream“ as you encounter it and process this on a daily (or weekly) basis; prioritise, tag, remove it

And no, the microwave is not a valid option.

Roland the Farter was obliged to perform his most intriguing performance „a jump, a whistle, a fart“ for King Henry II every Christmas

Mine‘s getting so accustomed to cold showers that I a) absolutely do not mind cold water for swimming etc. anymore and b) could not enjoy warm or hot showers anymore. They just weren’t nice at all.

Blue hours (sh.itjust.works)

My 2yo has one night with kind of a blue hour every other week, where he wakes up in the night and is just completely awake for 1-2,5 hours. Wanting to read books, maybe snack a bit.

They’re more common for him when there’s something up (milestones like learning a lot new words, when he learned to walk, teething, …)

Do any of you experience them? How do you handle this? We manage okay with keeping the light low, reading books that he can choose, but otherwise enforced staying in the bed.

So, we switched from one really big blanket to two individual smaller ones. And every day I’m struggling with the decision. Do I

a) let them overlap, which looks good but is a damn hassle to get undone for sleeping

b) have them separate and kinda crinkle them so they only cover one half of the bed, which looks ridiculously bad

c) some third option my simple mind could not come up with?
