you right, i fell for it

why would they give a fuck, they're getting fucked by the social contract, they get paid twice as much to inherit a burning planet and absolutely no prospects to have a home or even ever leave their childhood home, for the shit thankless work that customer service always has been

all for the "privilege" of making billionaires richer and furthering the destruction of the planet they're inheriting

tbf, things were going downhill in 2008, but things are fully off the rails now, we at least had delusions of hope back then

fell for it award edit: from limited experience, i've found it can be helpful to talk to young folks about the power of organizing and collective action. they're perpetually burned out from having nothing they can do to improve their circumstances, but this is a powerful avenue that, if communicated properly, can motivate them to become more invested both in their own situations, and that of others

quick check on your basics. sleep, hydration, food, hygiene. make sure they're square

if you're good on that front, get a good exercise session in (or work up to it, do a little bit of exercise over the next few days and build up your tolerance)

do something nice for yourself, something that preferably has a sensory component. have a nice meal with good smells and textures, or a warm bubble bath, or wash your blankets and curl up in them, or throw some ASMR on, or... you know, whatever does it for ya

go for a walk when the weather isn't too hot

good easy ways to pull yourself out of a slight dip. kinda been there myself, this the type of shit i been doing, too

i'm not wild about the implicit comparison to a literal alien, but it's also... fine. it feels a bit othering in the kind of way like, the owner wishes political dialogue wasn't constantly about trans people (... which i agree with!) i think they're probably not transphobic, but i would also hazard a guess they don't really Get It, either

drawing is a wonderful skill that allows you to express ideas in a way that words simply cannot

it really helped me a lot to express the sort of things i was going through when i was depressed. it helped because i could express the feelings without explaining the situation or having to put it in words

do you have friends that would be supportive of your drawings? if you don't, you could even post them online or here. but i think having a place to show your art and get feedback helps a lot (ofc, if you want to keep your art to yourself, that's perfectly okay too)

https://drawabox.com/ if you want to give it a try

speaking of yaoi, is there any yaoi out there which doesn't feature / almost exclusively depict non-consentual / unwanted sex? it's, quite frankly, a horrible fucking turn off, and i feel like i've run into it every time i've read any yaoi (not boy's love)

check out monster hunter (world/rise/wilds) and hop on bow, light bowgun, or heavy bowgun. expect a steep learning curve, but it shouldn't be bad if you're used to soulslikes, monhun is just precious with iframes, so it's a lot tighter to iframes through moves than it is in a typical souls/like

if you pick it up and end up needing a hand, hit me up! always happy to teach people how to hunt

shoutout to demon's souls for its cracked out magic system, it goes hard lmao

idk if i could say this is surprisingly easy or even really easy at all. this has actually been one of the most difficult things i've worked towards accomplishing during my life

at least, this has been really difficult for me online; i think it's much easier in person to not be a dick lol

but if it's hard for me online, maybe it's hard for folks in-person, too

what does that distinction mean to you, aside from the literal wording being different?

oh you mean they're not diagnosed with depression, they are only reporting higher scores of anxiety and depression, i see

[–] fracture@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

i don't understand what the implication is here. is more likely to report depression symptoms meaningfully distinct from having them? do we think that men born in the summer are just more honest about their mental health struggles?

wasn't sure where else to put this, since, while chronic, this definitely doesn't qualify for /c/chronicillness LOL (idk how to link communities sorry)

(post tone: lightly frustrated, somewhat comedic description of problems and viewpoints; i swear a lot in my normal speech, but i'm not pissed or anything)

i've been dealing with nasal/sinus issues for over a decade: i've had a couple surgeries for it, i'm currently doing braces, which is fixing the underbite situation and helps with nasal drainage, and i'm on a good amount of allergy meds to mitigate the situation

the doc i had ten years ago and the doc i just saw today told me the same thing: rinse my nose with saline twice a day

now, if i was willing to do that, i wouldn't be seeing a doctor. i know that i can simply waterboard myself persistently enough and the problem will go away

my issue is that i need to flush my sinuses at all to be a functional person (thankfully, on the current routine, it's maybe a few times a week, vs twice a day)

i should have talked about this in more detail with the doc, and i'll see him again after some allergy testing and talk about it more then (i needed a minute to compose myself 💀); but i mostly wanted to get a survey of other folks with these issues: do y'all just fuckin live with rinsing your nose out twice a day?? i been doing it for a decade, i know how to do it correctly, i just HATE DOING IT, i cannot imagine doing it 2x a day willingly

(if you're wondering what part of the process i hate, it's all of it; having to bank distilled water, dealing with either cold water in your congested nose (shitty) or having to heat up the water to the right temp to be warm but also not burn the shit out of your nasal passages (pain in the ass), and then having to clean a shitload of salt water out of your face because why the fuck would it drain out cleanly)

got my consult for FMS recently and i was told something interesting: apparently, if i hadn't used braces to straighten my bite, we could have done surgery to bring the jaw forward (and improve my jaw/chin), instead of doing an implant (which i will now have to do)

kind of hit me like a "how the fuck was i supposed to know", but maybe this advice will come in handy for one of y'all
