So dumb people who can't do multiplications, but can count months, won't panic.

On a more serious not, most people skim the headline, read "three times" and think
"Wow! There's some work to do!" instead of
"Twelve times!? Then Russia is winning. Wait, Russia is winning?
Why is this newspaper not stating that Russia is winning?
There's no way Ukraine can win with one bullet versus twelve.
Shouldn't this be a giant issue?
Why is there no giant debate on this?
Why is my newspaper demanding a debate on this?
Should Ukraine even continue to risk sending its soldiers to fight a war
where the enemy has twelve times the amount of ammo?"

Georg Hub, is that you?

As long as you don't use any of the windows and use the front door like my pet penguin, I won't mind.
And there's a kernel of truth in there and by that I don't mean the kernel of an apple.

I don't think that's bold.
It's already at 25% last month and 50+% in China.

US/UK/EU/AU/NZ Media:

"Taiwan is freedom and democracy."
"China is authoritarian. (Shows footage of police retaliating against ultra-aggressive Hong Kong rioters or journalists doing reporting on the middle of a busy road or someone's garden before being ushered away by traffic cops or security)"

Done.

So the trigger for this post is that I follow US political youtubers and I can't really guage on what end of on the political spectrum they would stand in my country, the Netherlands, because the US only has two political parties by design.

Recently this includes the new mayor of New York Zohran Mandami, which I placed at centre-left at first, but upon hearing him speak, I would move him towards left-wing.

But would he really match up with the Dutch political party SP in terms of ? And how would I know?
New York City is not the same as a country, ten to twenty times as large and twice the population, depending on how many people Mandami actually governs, 8 million, 14 million?

And their policies of course reflect of what came before, so by looking at just their policies, I think would be comparing apples to oranges.

But perhaps if I were to instead analyze the election programs choice of language of the Dutch political parties and see how they compare to US politicians and political commentators I maybe could have a better picture, because I've noticed that when it comes to the language used by the extreme right party of my country, they tend to use hyperbolic language on certain issues.

And when it comes to what I consider hypobolic or even inadvertently self-denigrating word choices like "People of color", I feel like this is something wholly embraced by the Dutch centre-left party, but when it comes to the left-wing party it's more in the background while
The language I come across there is "solidarity", "class justice", "for the people", "product", "casino-X", "without profit".

So having said that I'll first conclude this post with my vibes towards all of these political figures, commentators and parties and see if their language more or less matches with each other.

To categorize them, I added the term 'Ample', because I grew up with the VVD being the liberal right-wing party and the only right-wing party apart from two others;
One tradcon evangelical party and a far-right party.
And when I learned of the US Republican party and British conservatives it was.... weirdly far more right-wing than the VVD without being headed by a Kenneth Copeland or a Donald Trump (lite).

My vibes

So that's my vibes. If you think I'm off by a mile, please comment in this thread as to why you think otherwise. Some figures I have followed more than others.

In my next post I will analyze part of the election program of the Dutch extremist right-wing party and see if I can have it distinguish itself enough from the far-right by word choices and topic focus alone.

I'm going to agree with you here.
I put Mandami left of center until I rethought
on what I often see and hear from the center-left,
and words often used by the left.

"I don't think we should have billionaires" sounds very much left-wing to me,
rather than center-left.

Well, when I look at the party's stances of my country I see a pattern in terms of type of language used,
so maybe one can use that to model how right or left wing one is instead of using some arbitrary
policy like gun laws as a measuring tool.

Hmmmm.... those are articles about him.

Does Zoltan have a written election program?
Perhaps by the tone of language I might be able to better tell on what wavelength Mandami is,
compared to the Dutch political parties.

Although I will have to adjust the translation a bit,
to retain the type of language used,
so for example I adjust the translation
in order to keep the language strong,
where strong language is used.

I'll post an example..

Extreme/Far-right stance on housing (first paragraph)
Our housing crisis keeps getting worse and worse.
While the Constitution tells us that the government must provide a sufficient amount of housing,
the reality is that an increasing number of Americans can't afford a roof over one's head.
This US government completely failed.

Now I know a country is not the same as a city, but my country, the Netherlands, is small and densily populated, so maybe they're somewhat comparable?

I hear Mandami is considered from extreme-left to what he professes himself as democratic socialist, which to me would mean left-wing. I however keep pushing every US politician one or two positions to the right, but that's just vibes. So I would like to compare his stances to at least five political parties from my country, but where do I start?

Should I post an ask Lemmy on each topic how they compare to Mandami starting with housing? Because I would imagine the stances of each party on just one topic would already make quite a long post.

[edit]

I'll try and make several posts on this subject.

Part 1 - My vibes list of American youtubers & politicians

Liberals are rightwing.

There was a brief moment the US democratic party went social democratic, from Roosevelt to Carter and these days there's a small resurgance with Mamdani.

But Clinton, Obama, Biden, Harris and Cuomo are all at the very least centre-right wing.

Except for that one little village where people like Germanix lives.

Are they living too far away? Too poor to go there? Bots? Laziness? Are they not interested in military parades despite liking to denounce protesters?

What's the big reason?

Title buzzwords OFTEN IN CAPS.

  • The real reason
  • You won't believe
  • Bizarre
  • Dramatic
  • Insane
  • Never seen before
  • Shouldn't exist
  • The truth behind
  • Panicking
  • You won't beleive what

And what's also extremely annoying is whenever questions are being asked in the title, when it's them who should have the expertise..

Content creator title: "Did the president of Zimbabwe just imposed a ban on bananas from Guatamala?"
Me: "Don't ask me. You're supposed to know that."
