So people who lie a lot make up idiotic justifications to believe their own lies. That doesn't make them not-lies.

Hey hey hey now. We want to shut off the tap to people we can't ignore, not shut off their tap to us!
- every politician ever
I mean honestly it's immigration with extra steps for us and fewer steps for the migrants. But who are we kidding? These people are looking at the lack of public outrage regarding Gaza and 2 years of war in Ukraine, and they're thinking, "If no one cares about Russia or Israel, then it's not like they'll stop the US."
They actively don't care unless it impacts their pilgrimage directly.
They want Jesus to come back, and they think one part of that is that Jews control the holy land.
They are actively harming the world because they truly believe that 1) humans cannot destroy God's creation, so 2) if we get close he'll have to step in and end the world and take them to the heaven that they refused to build here.
His marching orders are to keep the narrative alive that the border is unsafe until the election.
Deal on the table to fix everything they're complaining about? Reject it.
Voters don't pay attention, especially not his voters, so it's safe for him and will help out any republican in a tight race. It's disgusting, but tactically sound.
Even the word conservative is a lie when they say it. Conservative is a method of not changing too much too quickly - it makes sense on paper. The problem is that their entire movement has abdicated it's intellectual responsibility and instead is actively regressive.
It makes sense not to change everything all at once, conserving some aspects of history and making sure nothing falls apart. But conservatives and progressives should have the same end goal of making things better, even if their methods and speed differ. These people see things that are absolutely fine and are curious about it because it undermines their narrative for themselves.
Or in this case, pretend to donate to the defenders and then charge them after the fact, and then give them away to the aggressor through third parties.
SpaceX says that they don't do any business with Russia, so these are either stolen, being sold by a third party illegally, or just showing up in unmarked boxes. Considering who Musk is, I will not be surprised to find out that he made this happen indirectly.
The best part of libel/slander/defamation is that you do not have to believe that the comments are negative. You just have to prove that 1) the person making the statement intended to harm you and 2) that you suffered harm as a result, and 3) that the statement is false.
There's some more nuance on a case by case basis, but like Tolstoshev said, this seems pretty cut and dry. Even if the majority have no issues with trans people, there are some - and this official was speaking to them with the intent to negatively impact this person.
Happily*
The stunning part is that they let it go to a vote without having whipped the necessary numbers.
They could have drawn it out with hearings, but they thought they had it in the bag and that their whole caucus was bought into the BS narrative they're trying to to drive leading into this election year.
I've started thanking places that don't have fox news on in the waiting room. Most recently, urgent care had cooking shows on, and another medical provider had HGTV.
So the issue is that they're conflating two things, like regressive so tend to do.
The issue they want to cover up is exactly this - sexual abuse of children. So they block education that would empower kids to understand what's being done to them, they block schools from explaining consent, etc.
Simultaneously, they point to anyone who isn't a straight Christian and call that grooming too, because their existence implies to children that they don't have to identify as a straight Christian.
Two completely different things, and they use the same word to dilute it's impact.
