It makes me wonder if they would restore wiped comments from accounts that have been deleted?
fear
There are reports of them already restoring deleted content, too. They have zero respect for their users' autonomy.
Edit: Someone started a thread about it here
And they were implied in my own, but I'm happy to extend my statement for you: Being in its infancy doesn't make it irrelevant compared to Reddit. In fact, that line of thinking from Reddit's leadership will lead them to obscurity more quickly than if they take this seriously. Just existing as a viable alternative is a big deal. We haven't had one for a very long time.
I hope we're able to avoid drama ourselves in the long run. I don't mind at all seeing it from a distance, but it would suck to be a direct part of it.
Being in its infancy doesn't make it irrelevant.
Yeah that sure is obnoxious, but it'll just become a new cat and mouse game.
Youtube regularly spits on its content creators and they come crawling back for more, that's how few alternatives Youtube has out there. Youtube is not currently at risk of death. Reddit might hemorrhage more users come July, but it hasn't died and won't die anytime soon, either.
Not only is it a pentagram, look at all the pretty colors of the LGBTQ+ agenda.
Yeah that should have been explained more clearly. It definitely matters which instance you use, and it's wise to check out a few of them and join one that fits your values. Perhaps what they meant is that it doesn't matter in the sense that if you end up disliking the leadership within one, you're free to find a better one and can easily reconnect yourself that way.
It's not like this was intentional lying to mislead anyone. I don't think people should feel betrayed because of what looks like a combo of growing pains and a learning curve. It's still early days and things like this will be become more apparent and sorted out in time.
I could be wrong since I'm still new to this, but the federation is an amorphous blob that could theoretically continue to avoid centralization. This should be the aim, and honestly this aim should probably be kept lowkey because that could hasten something like "SOPA 2024: This is why we can't have nice things."
I humbly protest as someone finding out for someone else's fuck around.
It's a funny comparison, but there's more to it than that for some of us. There's the matter of 17 years worth of deleted information possibly rising up from the dead. People delete posts for more reasons other than "fuck spez". It's fair to be having the discussions that could eventually turn into a class action lawsuit.
