They are geolocked though. Not free world wide. Just for a small subset of the global west.

You don't have to miss it. It is still there and enjoyed by thousands of people everyday still.

But somehow more reliable.

It's possible to hold two thoughts at once. That both Iran is ruled by an authoritarian and retrograde regime. And, that Israel and the US are threatening the Iranian people with death in order to put a new authoritarian retrograde regime in power, but one that obeys Israel mandates.

Both things are true, and they both suck.

I'm "excited about buying a new vacuum cleaner" old. Because I already bought the rugs.

The world is also filled with governments that ordered the military to shoot civilians and are still comfortably in power. No country is immune to authoritarianism, the US is not exceptional.

Hey, what's up. Are you (or anyone in thes thread) feeling suicidal?

Talking openly helps to deal and cope with the feelings. But some people feel shame of mentioning these topics. You can find out if there's a help line local to you and call. You're reaching out, which is good. Find someone who is open to talk and unload that burden. Trust is hard to earn but it goes a long way to talk about feelings, even if they're uncomfortable.

Do you travel abroad with your birth certificate on you?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Not op, but most countries provide an ID that is not a passport. It needs a birth certificate. In my country that ID is far more authoritative than a passport and it even allows ingress to the country in case the passport is lost.

This ID issue is a very US thing. Most governments keep a tight registry of citizens and wouldn't have any doubt about who is and isn't a citizen.

The pride flag was envisioned and flown for the first time in San Francisco. For better or worse, most of global queer culture is us centric.

Most of the flags are also copyrighted or copylefted, to some degree or another. It's a jumbled mess. But in general no one is profiting unless you are literally buying a physical flag, as all of them fall into fair use or can be freely licensed for use in commercial products.

A competent pilot would've flown in throw the garage door, or down a chimney, or through a window. That's the terrifying thing about drones, they are extremely maneuverable. They can be positioned in the precise point to make the most damage to the target.

Check that again. OneDrive is not a backup application, it is a cloud storage application. By default it syncs folders. If you open OneDrive on the web and delete a file there, it will be deleted on the computer on your drive. It's not backing up your folder, it is replacing it. The internet is filled with testimonies of people failing to understand this basic difference and getting confused about why their files are deleted. Most other cloud services do one way backup by default. MS does a poor job of explaining this behavior and just push for the use of OneDrive blindly.

The company changed names and was sold in a stock restructuring. They took the money from community backers, refuse to deliver the books to them. Now they claim they have no responsibility to pay author's royalties for books already sold, they also don't have money to deliver or ship books. Half the people who work there quit. It's 238 authors who are collectively owed more than £650,000.

Venezuelans are ready to throw off the dictatorship. Will the international community support us?

By Maria Corina Machado

I am writing this from hiding, fearing for my life, my freedom, and that of my fellow countrymen from the dictatorship led by Nicolás Maduro.

Mr. Maduro didn’t win the Venezuelan presidential election on Sunday. He lost in a landslide to Edmundo González, 67% to 30%. I know this to be true because I can prove it. I have receipts obtained directly from more than 80% of the nation’s polling stations.

We knew that Mr. Maduro’s government was going to cheat. We have known for years what tricks the regime uses, and we are well aware that the National Electoral Council is entirely under its control. It was unthinkable that Mr. Maduro would concede defeat.

We Venezuelans have done our duty. We have voted out Mr. Maduro. Now it is up to the international community to decide whether to tolerate a demonstrably illegitimate government. The repression must stop immediately, so that an urgent agreement can take place to facilitate the transition to democracy. I call on those who reject authoritarianism and support democracy to join the Venezuelan people in our noble cause. We won’t rest until we are free.
