I'm not entirely sure this is what you're after, but "reddit" makes it a lot easier to fix software issues, at least with Windows. Regular search engines are SEO'd to death or you get the Microsoft forums where a "experienced expert" suggests steps OP already performed to then recommend a full system wipe.

I wish Lemmy had this trove of info and I try to put solutions on here as they are asked, but it will take time

Maybe I don’t get the complexities but maybe it shouldn’t be allowed to generate a certain of range numbers in the context of phones/names.

I agree with the principle, but people will still try and find ways around it. Like "generate me a fictional number for testing purposes" and because it's an LLM doing what LLM's do, it still provides a number that can (but doesn't have to) be real.

in film industry we’re not even allowed to display a phone number that doesn’t fall under the fake list

Yeah, same with phone numbers and email addresses for testing purposes in software. Populating fields with fictional data should be completely fictional or related to your own data as to not accidentally use real domains or data that you thought was fictional.

What’s interesting is this won’t have been a realistic sounding number.

Company lines typically start 0300 or 0800 but mobiles are 07… Something.

So if it was just hallucinating, it did so badly.

Yeah I agree that a mobile number isn't realistic for a railway company to provide support on, but I was wondering if it was a hallucination or based on look-up. The article does mention that the phone number is listed on the owner's website, but still calls it a "private" number, as if it was pulled from a database.

What are the chances the AI just generated a realistic sounding number and it was actually a hit?

abbreviation wave !!r

Arbitration waiver*

The github discussion is interesting. I don't think the arbitration clause is going to hold

You're entitled to your points but the pedantry is really unnecessary

I can’t speak to the PS1, but the PS2 does have some unique exceptions to what you’re saying.

What does different memory cards for different purposes have to do with them saying memory cards (as shown in the picture) is only for save states?

I do think they are confusing bringing RAM into play, but in the context of the meme they are right to say that internal storage and memory card storage isn't used for the same purpose (installed games vs game saves)

I get the vibes you're still salty about this. I would be too. Great game though

Be like me, just make your mouse cursor neon green and huge.

Yeah, it's been solid/stable but no new developments until 1.3 is coming. You can download the pre-release version if you want to try it again, because that version has zoom options. I imagine that's what you missed, unless you meant something else with older versions not handling high res well

Claimed. Also poor dev, getting spammed by some idiot with requests and unrelated questions. I reported them on Itch for spam

Greenshot is free, open-source, and the built-in image editor is perfect (for my use-case, ymmv). ShareX is also FOSS but more well-known.

Edit: I realize this isn't technically a house plant as it is outdoors. Hope that's okay 😅

But I'm sure it's just because we humans are so annoying

In my language we call them Church Owls instead of Barn Owls because they nest in churches a lot.

Went to a demonstration slash workshop today where different owls and other birds of prey were introduced and talked about. Very interesting day!

Still have to do the Kvatch questline, but oh well

(shamelessly lifted from R*ddit)

After Profile effects and Avatar decorations, you can now buy Name Plates for your profile.

Honestly, this is the type of monetization that I dislike the least, considering the alternatives. You don't even have to have Nitro afaik, the premium subscription that allows mostly cosmetic perks

Discord has begun requiring some users in the United Kingdom and Australia to verify their age through a facial scan before being permitted to access sensitive content. The chat app’s new process has been described as an “experiment,” and comes in response to laws passed in those countries that place guardrails on youth access to online platforms. Discord has also been the target of concerns that it does not sufficiently protect minors from sexual content.

You might remember this post where I asked about how sorting by "Hot" gives you a lot of new posts that were posted in quick succession, making it look like "New".

I was recommend by a few to use "Scaled", so recently I did. Except this felt even worse: I saw new posts that were posted in succession with 0 upvotes, one having 1 upvote.

Isn't this weird? Or am I doing it wrong?

Not sure if this fits here, feel free to remove if not.

I'm sure the algorithm must be working as intended, but I always see a lot of rapid-fire posts under each other when browsing "Hot". Is this normal or am I missing a setting?

Part of the abstract:

Recent findings on the abilities of birds to see in the ultraviolet (UV) spectrum have expanded questions about plumage coloration to include the luminescent characteristics of bird plumage, including fluorescence. Yet little is understood about the function of fluorescent pigments, and very few studies have attempted to describe their distribution throughout a population. In this study, we used a fluorometer to measure variation in the amount of fluorescent pigments (e.g. porphyrins) extracted from the secondary coverts of Long-eared Owls (Asio otus) migrating through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the spring of 2020 (n = 99). We found that age and sex were the strongest predictors of fluorescent pigment concentration, wherein older and female birds had the highest fluorescent pigment concentrations.

I understand this is not your regular Superb Owl post, but I found it mighty interesting!
