i actually got hold of a review copy of this

(using the underhand scurvy weasel trick of asking for one)

that was two weeks ago and i still haven't opened it lol

better get to that, sigh

this review has a number of issues (he liked HPMOR) but the key points are clear: bad argument, bad book, don't bother

if you call him an AI promoter he cites his carefully organised blog posts of concerns

meanwhile he was on the early access list for GPT-5

also I recall you're the one claiming us queer perverts must object to aella from a position of being anti-kink, and not because of all the horrible shit she says and does

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q. look, if we throw mean names at the AI grifters fucking up the economy, the culture, our lives, our personal interactions, and everything around us, doesn’t that make us as bad as them? if you really think about it.

A. lol no, the fuck is this dumb bullshit, get the fuck out with this fucking insulting stupidity

Q. but

A. no, we need more shame here. much more. also, the fuck you doing using Warren fucking Ellis as a source in TYOOL 2025, did you remember to consult Neil Gaiman.

to elaborate, Taler has been busy going nowhere for coming on ten years now. There is no reason to expect it will do anything. It doesn't do anything ordinary non-nerds don't already get from money.

Given this, and its track record of going nowhere, how does it seem like it could be big?

(I once had rms email me personally asking me to publicise Taler on my blockchain blog. I never got around to it because I couldn't find anything interesting to say about it. Literally its only point of interest is the GNU label, same as the only reason anyone knows about Hurd.)

youtube:

So we're going to "complete" a great work of cinema which died an untimely death, by digging it up, deconstructing it, and feeding parts of its disassembled corpse to a dark power we don't understand (some transformer model). Then we won't stop there- we're going to hire living actors to construct and pose the skeletons of the zombie-actors we're going to create in their place. Then we're going to rip their faces off, and glue on the faces of the long-dead actors- after the dark power (transformer model) spits them out from the disassembled mass of parts we fed it.

OpenPhilanthropy has been seeding (b) a bit of money to local liberal activist groups but (a) guys to get them to do Abundance shit, under that name, then the guys play coy about the EA agenda

source: talking to people wondering who the fuck these weirdos were. they said "OpenPhilanthropy" and I went "ohhh boy have I got some disconcerting news for you"

yeah, but it's a sure giveaway on which criticisms really hit home. So focus on governance.
