Wireguard was remarkably easy to set up. Knowing nothing about it beyond “it’s a vpn thing right?” I set it up, tested it, and sent a qr code with setup instructions to my friend all from my phone without moving off the sofa. He was up and running in 5 minutes.

Yes, exactly what I did. You can just buy a 2230 nvme ssd and slap it in. Process is pretty painless (just remember to take any micro SD card out before you take the shell off or there’s a chance you’ll snap it)

The hardest part for me was finding a usb-c to usb-a converter so I could plug in a usb stick to reinstall the OS.

I second this. Seriously one of the best things I’ve bought in years. 64gb + 1tb+ m2 is such a ridiculous bargain if you can operate a screwdriver.

They’re incredibly good emulation platforms too.

I honestly hope they just sell this model for a few years while dropping the price - something to be said for having a standard hardware platform with a huge install base.

I don’t think users are powerless. All these shenanigans are hurting Reddit, otherwise they wouldn’t be trying so hard to shut it down.

I think it might feel like that because Reddit made a sadly rare good decision in deciding to stay quiet and out of the press, as it casts doubt on how effective dissent is.

But it’s clear from the continued pressure on mods and the fairly drastic action to arrest the nsfw trend that the fallout is way worse than they anticipated and they’re just doing damage control.

It’s working, keep at it.

Alcohol is a fantastic solvent for some things, but it’s a really bad solvent for sugar, which is likely what’s causing stickiness.

70% alcohol will work a bit better than 90 or 99, but only because of the water content. Distilled water will work better though, and is a bit safer than tap water.

The best approach is to strip it down and clean and dry each part. Dumping anything in has a high chance to cause more harm than good.

If it’s a membrane keyboard then there’s a good chance that it’ll die at some point in the future as the (fairly delicate) contacts will be slowly eroded by the liquid.

Surprised you’re struggling to reach stuff - the stagger on a moonlander is pretty subtle.

Have you tried angling them inwards relative to your desk?

Whenever I do this with other companies I do a SAR to get a copy of the data, then a RTBF request to get the data removed, then another SAR to see what they retained.

A significant number say they delete your data and then happily send it back to you a coupla months later when you make an SAR. The ICO loves those ones.

Problem is they’ll just remove the mods then. The rules around policing nsfw content are pretty well established, mods that don’t do it get quickly removed.

Yeah I mean it's a great idea, but the admins are literally removing moderators from subs that turn themselves nsfw - eg interestingasfuck is still unmoderated and locked.

Making popular subreddits NSFW clearly hurts them, because Reddit has been forcing them to switch it off. They've also been forcing subreddits to reopen if they've been restricted. So those two options aren't really very viable for every sub.

I suspect this one hurts them too because this post is not visible any more unless you go directly to it or via the pics subreddit - despite it being newer and having more votes than other posts in there that are on the homepage and in popular.

If even a quarter of the people that upvoted this post clicked through to the request form they're gonna have tens of thousands of these requests to deal with.

I’m saying I don’t think they can really detect when you’re circumventing subreddit bans if you do all of the above.

I also think their “site wide ban” is just suspending that user, they don’t attempt to prevent you from coming back unless you start to hassle the same people/subreddits again.

(This is based on experience of reporting scammers on Reddit and getting upwards of a couple of hundred users banned)

If you stick with it you’ll make steady consistent progress. One thing that really helped me was tracking my progress with monkeytype.com - it might not feel like you’re getting better but seeing how closely correlated practice and improvement are really kept me motivated to stick with it.

I haven’t lost the ability to type as I previously did, though I do find myself resenting being forced to use laptop keyboards. I can do like 60wpm hunt and peck on a row staggered keyboard, and a bit more touch typing on an ortho/ergo/split, but I can’t touch type on a row staggered kb and I can’t hunt and peck on an ortho/ergo/split, haha
