To me it seems that the same "carefulness" is being exercised in the counteroffensive. AFAIK majority of the reserves aren't being used. Maybe the government is concerned about the repercussions that a failed counteroffensive could have in terms of the long term support from western countries. In such case they would have every reason to be conservative when doing maneuvers and letting information go public.

What I'm saying that in our world appearances matter (arguably too much), and Ukraine is stuck playing a game to keep foreigners happy. Also note that I have no merits to back up any of these thoughts and I'm pulling them out of my behind.

Low pay, bad working condition, no sense of accomplishment, hardly any upwards mobility. Why would I do that, if I have better options?

I kind of agree with the lack of career options for factory workers, but in many factory jobs there are several upsides.

For example many places allow you to listen to music/podcasts all day, while you are working. The work itself is often not mentally taxing and it doesn't follow you home when you leave. Also there is no reason not to feel pride in being able to complete relatively complex tasks with care and speed.

At first glance this seems like a relic of an old system. Much like the clear split between officers and regular troops in the soviet/russian system. A system that is heavily controlled by few might seem like a safe option in comparison to the alternative, where where responsibility has to be distributed among many possible "points of failure".

Some of it I can understand. The government of Ukraine seems very much afraid of loosing the mental image that western help is highly effective and more should be provided. Hiding tactical failures and other decisions that could be interpreted as incompetence, could be seen as an attempt to preserve that image.

He seems to have a relatively anti government stance in various areas, eg. surveillance and the centrally driven monetary system. Those leaning right often have similar stances, so that might be why he is being put into the same mental box as them?

I agree that it's a bit shallow to split people on the left/right axis merely based on a few ideas of how very specific aspects of the society are being run.

Tässä on juuri kaksi näkökulmaa. Toisaalta ostat palvelua markkinoilta, jolloin ideaalitilanteessa hinta määräytyisi kysynnän mukaan. Toisaalta sitten kyse on mielestäni perustarpeesta, jolloin valtion tulee taata sen saatavuus. Vähän niinkuin terveydenhuolto.

Nämä lienee perustavanlaatuisia kysymyksiä, joissa vaikuttaa ihmisen oma näkemys yksilönvapaus-valtion vastuu akselilla.

Fakta on se, että monella alalla harjoittelijan työpanos ei ole vielä juuri minkään arvoista ja usein vie kokeneempien tekijöiden aikaa.

Tämä on fakta. En näe kuitenkaan miksi se olisi ongelma? Jos harjoittelijoita ei haluta palkata, niin aina voi yrittää etsiä sitä yksisarvista, joka osaa kaiken tarvittavan jo valmiiksi. Toki tällaisessa tilanteessa joutunee maksamaan enemmän palkkaa :)

Harjoittelijan palkkaamisenkin voisi nähdä investointina yritykseen. Kun harjoittelijalle on opetettu tarvittavat asiat, hän alkaa tuottamaan arvoa yritykselle.

Mielestäni softapuolella käytäntö on todella toimiva. Jos haluat valmiin työntekijän (harvinaisia), niin maksat siitä markkina-arvon mukaisen hinnan. Jos taas haluat halvempaa työvoimaa, niin pitää hyväksyä, että sen osaaminen ei täysin täsmää tarpeisiin. Firman piikkiin sitten perehdytetään tarvittaviin työkaluihin. Pidemmällä aikavälillä tämä on yleensä kannattavaa, sillä perehdytetty työntekijä tuottaa lähes samantasoista tulosta, kuin se kallis senioritason ammattilainen.

The article mentions some good arguments in favor of using off the shelf parts (both cheaper and more familiar to the end user). Part of me feels like this should be embraced more widely, as many industries feel bloated and unnecessarily expensive to get into.

And then we see people take some used pipes and make them to be safety critical parts of a deep sea submarine. I'm all for simplifying and reducing cost when it's not necessary, but this seems a bit cheap.

Apparently the deep sea challenger had a releasable ballast weight that was designed to be automatically detached via corrosion in case of the release system failing. That is something that feels like both an intuitive and inexpensive system design.

Palkattomat työharjoittelut ja työpaikkailmoitukset ilman tietoa työpaikan muiden työntekijöiden palkkaustasosta, on sellaisia asioita, että en jäisi kaipaamaan :)

Kaikki perustelut noiden olemassaololle on käytännössä työnantajan edun ajamista.

EK on jo valmiiksi sitä mieltä, että työllä ei tarvitse tulla toimeen, niin ainahan siitä harjoittelusta vois maksaa valtion puolesta jotain tukia. Esim toimeentulotuen vaatimukseksi työtä.

Mietityttää vähän, onko tällä pidemmällä aikavälillä jotain vaikutusta esim työntekijöiden näkemyksiin politiikasta. Jos on lapsesta asti yritetty vaan kusettaa työmarkkinoilla, niin alkaako jossain vaiheessa yrittäjien edun ajaminen särähtää korvaan aiempia sukupolvia pahemmin?

Keskusteluja seuraamalla saa myös ehkä hieman vääristyneen kuvan siitä, mitkä on asenteet tähän touhuun. Kevytyrittäjyyden kannattajat on usein omalla alallaan menestyviä freelancereita, joille vapaampi työn muoto on etu. Aliedustettuina ovat sitten ne, jotka tekevät perusduunia käytännössä työsuhteessa työsopimusta lukuunottamatta. Suomiredditissä ei siis ainakaan tullut montaa wolttikuskia vastaan, mutta freelance koodareita tms konsultteja senkin edestä.
