This is a good point too. I saw some many that I'd like to follow that didn't even have a Welcome thread so, to the idea that some are just name grabbing as well and hoping it'll be useful one day.

Part of the federation is multiple kbin or lemmy instances can all have /popularnamehere and than can federate to to the other. Plus /technology on kbin could be wildly popular while another may not be. Or both are going strong, but folks like more responsive in one instance than another.

kbin uses the @username style. So replace the ! with @ and search again. Same for usernames and communities/magazines

Looks that way! I am getting an error on the elastic search container though.

Starting omnivore-elastic ...
omnivore-redis is up-to-date
Starting omnivore-elastic ... done

You pay for the transfer basically and keep the current registration time + 1 year. But ICANN only allows transfers within certain time windows of age of the domain, before/after registration, and such as well... but could be easier now to get out of Google and locked into a mess later.

I'm working through the selfhost install now! we'll see how it goes and works. I asked them yesterday about their app support for mobile and custom domains. iOS is supported and they are working on adding that support for Android.

This is cool! I just got FreshRSS installed yesterday. Still have time to change if I want to. I'll keep this in mind.

That is how the federation works! Also can see posts on other platforms like Mastodon, calckey, plerma. Enjoy!

Writing a Powershell module is not something I've done yet. I think once I attempted, but with what I was doing the one simple function or script did what I needed. Got any tips or resources?

It's nice when you can have the system do the work for you as well, and automate what you can too.

I use namecheap for the registration and Cloudflare for the DNS. Pretty easy setup and support as well. The SSL is great as I get a free SSL wildcard and can use that for other origin and edge certificates as well.

That does present a poor user experience, but also seems like a quick decision too.

Transferring domains on your own is a process…. Wonder how much harder it will be moving registration and user accounts, dns, Whois, name servers, etc. hopefully it’s easier for the users too and don’t get stuck in migration limbo.
