It's something I've noticed in general.
I had an amazing boss who was single and lived alone, and really love her staff. We had unecessarily long staff meetings every week. When I started I was annoyed by them until someone pointed out that the time we spent with everyone getting distracted and going off-topic and padding out the meeting while we ate our lunch around the conference room table was, for her, the weekly family meal.
I still don't like unnecessary meetings, but it gave me a different perspective on why some people like them.
A year is a nice long runway for that.
It sucks, but we aren't getting rid of the fascists over the weekend. They're in this for the long haul, and we need to be strategic about when and how we proceed. A general strike is a HUGE offensive in the fight, and it needs to be planned well. If we just mass buy shit before and after it doesn't do anything.
Targeted boycotts are similar. They need to be strategic in their timing. Refusing to shop on Amazon for a week doesn't do anything if we just go back to purchasing from them a week later. But what we can do is time it so it hits right before a fiscal quarter. That way it impacts the stock price and doesn't fully bounce back until the following quarterly report.
You don't have to talk to a masked gunman or engage with them in any way to call 911.
If you see masked people with guns, call 911. If they're authorized to be there, there's no harm in calling it in.

Peaceful protests are a statement that the people are upset and want change. There has to be a threat of escalation if protests are ignored.
That's not to say we should jump straight to violence. It's recognizing that in the event a government ignores laws, suppresses the vote, and uses violence against its people that the people may eventually need to hit back.
