Surely there was another coup in west Africa in 2024, wasn't there? Or did that all first go down in 2023?
https://www.mining.com/barrick-halts-operations-in-mali-after-245m-gold-seized/
The Mali government yoinked a bunch of gold from Barrick, Barrick in turn suspended the mining operation. That project has been a pretty big chunk of state revenue in the past, so with operations stopped that will dry up. The question now is whether Barrick will agree to new terms and restart it, if the state will seize it and do Malians Going Their Own Way, or if it will just languish in project limbo.
You should post this using "speak as moderator" so it's pinned at the top of the thread
I'll believe it when Israel inks a deal and then we go more than 48h without a video of the idf doing a controlled demolition of a hospital for orphans
Fingers crossed though
No, there's a fair amount of stuff in the ground in Greenland. It's hard to get at because of lack of infrastructure and the brutal climate but it's there, not a meme
Why does he give a shit about the UK?
UK labour sent a bunch of staff to help kamala last year. Starmer is also aesthetically a lot like Trudeau. The married guy vibes that both of them give off aggrevates the divorced guy vibes that elon has

If you want a different version of this story, check out the dim sum diaries. It's a play that is comprised of a bunch of monologues/dialogues from interviews with Chinese immigrants to Canada about integration, mostly people from Hong Kong who moved in the late 80s
If you ignore the pro Canada Lng brainworms, this oped is a decent rundown of the impact and players associated with gas transit from Russia through ukraine to European end users
The first big wave of immigrants from Hong Kong to western Canada was in the late 80s/early 90s. Are you sure the game is about response to the 2019 protests?
Sure, but Biden's brain is soup. The foreign policy blob as a whole has definitely been looking for a way out, evidenced by all the think tank and prestigious western press articles about exits and how to wind this thing up.
"even though we're clearly wrong on this and Cuba is not a sponsor of terrorism and even though sanctions have brutally impacted Cuban quality of life, we're not actually sorry so go fuck yourself"
