So the twist is that many users are reporting errors during the registration process. They aren't receiving the activation email. When they try to register again, the page says an account already exists. When they try resetting their password, they don't receive the reset password email, either. If anyone successfully registers, please report back in this thread how you did it.

I was afraid of that, but thanks for confirming.

[–] barnaclebill 4 points 2 weeks ago

My only reservation was that it'll take a really long time (several terabytes on traditional HDDs) but perhaps that is the way to go.

I'm in the midst of a migration to a new Linux distro and I'm stuck on restoring my qBittorrent setup from my previous install. Both environments are desktop versions of Linux - previously Bazzite, switching to Debian.

Prior to wiping the OS drive that had Bazzite on it, I had backed up my BT_data and config folders to a separate data drive. After installing Debian, I've copied my BT_data and config folders back to the right place on the new OS, however the issue I'm running into now is that when I open qBittorrent for the first time, all my torrents say Missing Files. This checks out seeing as the paths are slightly different, /run/media/oldusername/data instead of just /media/newusername/data. I started doing a force re-check on all my torrents and realized it'll take a very long time seeings as I have 6 TB of data to re-check.

I did a "find and replace" in all the config files to update the default save paths and the save paths for all my categories, but that wasn't enough.

Has anyone else gone through a qBittorrent migration and run into this problem? If so, how did you overcome it? Any other tips I should try?

I'm thinking of going back to Bazzite just to see if I can replicate the paths and get qBittorrent to recognize all my files again without having to re-check everything. I might also try setting up sym links to duplicate the original paths from the Bazzite install. I think these two approaches might be faster than re-checking my whole library. I am a tad concerned about getting hit with HnR's on some of my trackers since I've been offline for about 24 hours now. And I did not do a full backup of my previous OS (lmaoooo), so there's nowhere for me to go but forward. Thanks in advance for your help!

They might be flexible with that requirement. People who aren't already on two PTs should use the text box to explain their situation and get creative with their screenshots - for example, show stats in your torrent client proving you continue to seed your downloads. Make a good faith effort and they might look past your lack of other PTs. Good luck.

LST is open for applications for their three-year anniversary. I believe they'll stay open until Fri Aug 1 @ midnight UTC.

Rules:

  • Seeding: You must seed downloaded torrents at least for 3 days as soon as you downloaded more than 10% of a torrent. Regardless of your ratio. The seedtime starts counting as soon as you have 100% downloaded. You do not have to seed your torrent 24/7, but you must fill the required seed time within 21 days after downloading. Completed requests needs to be seeded for 10 days!
  • Inactivity: Accounts get automatically disabled after 90 days of no activity, activity is seen as either logging in to the site or seeding at least 1 torrent. Certain classes have a perk preventing being disabled due to inactivity, check class perks for these. Once disabled you get an e-mail with a link to re-activate your account by logging back in. Accounts get soft deleted 120 days after being disabled.
  • Ratio Requirement: 0.4
  • VPNs: Yes

Stats:

  • Total Users: 10,998

S'all good, reach out if you have any questions!

I see an application requiring screenshots indicating proof of membership in other private trackers

Yes, that means they are currently open. Note that, as this post's title says, they are Open Application (not to be confused with Open Registration), meaning anyone can apply without an invitation.

If you do not have proofs of membership on other PTs, they might still consider you if you give them reasons to let you in. For example, a screenshot of something that shows you would be a valuable member of the community, such as your torrent client showing long seed times and high ratios. Be sure to make your case in the text box.

Good luck.

  • Inactivity: You must log in once every 60 days or seed at least 1 torrent to keep your account. Once disabled you have another 60 days to login and get your account re-activated. Every disabled account gets deleted after 180 days of inactivity.

Any of the trackers that show up on the open signups forums, e.g., OnlyEncodes+ and FearNoPeer (both Unit3d based).

I'm curious to view real time stats for trackers I'm a member of. I see stats posted in open signups, and I know about the private tracker website, but I don't see where the stats are displayed on the sites themselves. Is that because I'm not on the staff or are they just tucked away in a menu somewhere?

[–] barnaclebill 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I experienced this off and on yesterday. The issue seems to have been resolved. Good luck.

[–] barnaclebill 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Note that many commenters in the original Reddit post are reporting that registration is broken (they do not receive the activation email).

EDIT: Supposedly, the registration issues are resolved.

pay to leech

Just chiming in w/ my own experience: In the six weeks since I joined through open registration, there have been at least two periods of global freeleech. Even outside of those times, almost everything I've searched for has had multiple versions to choose from, and more often than not, at least one of those versions is permanent freeleech.

There are also multiple bonus point giveaways daily. While there are various donation tiers for those who cannot or will not maintain their ratio through seeding or bonus point buys, it's definitely not pay to leech—I started from scratch a month ago and I'm doing fine.

[–] barnaclebill 1 points 1 month ago

We appreciate it!

[–] barnaclebill 1 points 1 month ago

This was very informative. I can live w/ RAR files, especially in situations where it's the only version of something I can find, but I didn't understand the why until I read your comment. Thanks for explaining that.

So, yeah: Do you save your torrent files or delete them after you've added them to your favorite torrent client? Why? Not the underlying data, just the torrent files themselves.

I'm undecided. I figure if I save them and back them up to an offline/offsite device, then I can (mostly/hopefully) recover from hardware failure by simply re-adding all the torrent files to my favorite client. The downside is deciding how to organize them.

I'd love to hear from the community on this.

As a torrent seeder, does one's max upload speed affect their likelihood of connecting w/ leechers? I know about port forwarding and all that jazz, but suppose a leecher adds a torrent with 10 seeders—does the leecher's client give any sort of preferential treatment for seeders w/ faster connections or is it basically each seeder has an equal (in this case, 10%) chance of being the chosen one? In other words, do seeders w/ normie home internet connections have a disadvantage over those w/ the faster connections?
