Yeah agreed, that works in Voyager but I can image the syntax will break in other clients/apps

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Haha that’s fantastic, trying to comment on mobile and I guess the last number got deleted

Wow looks like they deleted that tweet. The post here from yesterday has some screenshots (thanks @MysticKetchup): https://mtgzone.com/post/376725

Yeah I agree, it’s a least possible WotC is relying on the artist’s claim.

This is 100% AI generated/assisted in some way and anyone who’s ever used Midjourney or any of them can see this. I’m surprised WotC made such an immediate denial, they could’ve at least looked into this more fully given the potential fallout.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Wow I completely forgot about this ability! Kind of like a mini [[Lure]]. There seem to be only 9 cards with it too. I think this could be a great ability for green to get more of and makes total sense color-wise.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Yeah probably so difficult that even in the 0% chance it does come back the cards would be so neutered that what’s point.

A low dredge value helps though and even a few that are quirky would be cool. Like a recurring ETB effect on a cheap artifact with dredge 2 that’s heavy on the lore. Something!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah this would be a great one to see again, I love Convoke too. I just looked it up and I’m surprised there are so few legendary creatures with it, and none that would enable a GW commander deck 😮 Would love to build that one day.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (6 children)

My crazy long shot that’s never coming back as is, sadly: Dredge. I think it’s such a fun and unique mechanic, and cards like Life from the Loam are excellent examples of how it can be done well.

More realistically: I’d love to see Buyback again, an old one I loved from Exodus. Capsize every turn!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah rare wildcards for common staples like Bolt, Counterspell, and Swords really really feels bad.

FWIW though Timeless is the first format on Arena that makes we want to spend wild cards so I’m hopeful for it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Just noticed Thespian’s Stage too!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Life from the Loam is getting an old frame reprint! Would’ve killed for the Nielsen art but it is what it is!

I’m so excited for this set, I love remastered drafts but honestly I’m most excited to add a ton of new old frame cards to my old frame cube and decks. Life from the Loam, Deathrite Shaman (!), Dark Confidant, Chord of Calling, the shock lands, Pithing Needle, Rest in Peace. So many great adds.

I hope these all make it to Arena too as styles.

A little surprising that [[Orcish Bowmasters]] is already on their watchlist but the card seems pretty nuts so far. [[Mirkwood Bats]] is also on the watchlist.

Rules

The ring tempts you – This is a mechanic that – on the surface – looks a lot like venturing into the dungeon. In the past we’ve had to make changes to Rule 10 (Cards from outside the game) to accommodate these mechanics. Unlike Dungeons, though, this mechanic is tracked on an emblem! The rules today already accommodate emblems, so no changes are necessary for this to function as it does in other formats.

General Commentary

We’ve been following the community’s discussions and concerns surrounding Orcish Bowmasters, and – to a lesser extent – Mirkwood Bats. With the help of the Commander Advisory Group, we’ll be observing how and if those discussions change over time as people play and play against these cards.

We’ve also seen a ton of excitement! The idea of a fully fleshed-out set with deep lore really closely aligns with our goals in managing the format. In this set, Wizards has delivered a ton of tools to players who want to tell stories through their deckbuilding and gameplay. A property as deep as Lord of the Rings has a ton of stories to tell.

We’ll be back with our next update on August 28 in advance of Wilds of Eldraine!

Badges available starting Friday, June 16 (today) at https://mcvegas.mtgfestivals.com/. Magic World Championship XXIX and a $100,000 Limited Open are also taking place.
