Sorry if I’m missing something obvious but what green creature(s) are you referring to?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Not many that’s for sure, I was thinking perhaps parts of the Depths combo in Legacy but Crop Rotation is just too much more efficient I think. It’d be 1 turn slower for tron lands in the mono G version over Sylvan Scrying but does put it into play and it does have other incidental uses, namely blowing up a Ring. Amulet doesn’t really play any land tutor effects but this also gets Prime Time at instant speed.

A green version of Archmage’s charm isn’t something I knew I needed until now!

GGG is a lot more restrictive than UUU in the older formats but this does have a pretty wide range of uses. 3 cmc instant speed to get any land into play is pretty strong. Can sometimes work as creature removal and incidental artifact or enchantment exile is very nice (this hits The One Ring).

I would LOVE to see [[Archmage’s Charm]] in standard!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Yeah the fact that this hits any nonland permanent and straight up exiles it at instant speed is really substantial. It's 5 total mana to do this though which is high, but yeah maybe in the right deck this gets played in standard.

I loved this card so much in my Mirage/Tempest era mono red deck! [[Ball Lightning]] was my all time favorite for so long, but I loved [[Mogg Fanatic]] under those old rules and [[Cursed Scroll]] as well.

I remember adding more of these guys to Ben Rubin's sligh deck I copied in 1998.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This is awesome! [[Show and Tell]] is a big addition and probably helps the Titan Field decks as well.

Personally love [[Gamble]] and [[Tireless Tracker]] as well. I just really wish they'd add more utility lands and [[Life from the Loam]].

Wow wither!? Was not expecting that one to ever come back, I love it. I think the first and last time we saw wither was in Lorwyn block?

Seems like an awesome card and really strong in Limited. Makes every chump blocker more effective and can really draw a ton of cards if unchecked.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

This seems super fun but I’m having a hard time evaluating whether it’s playable outside of EDh/casual.

The static is cool (though I hate static abilities on planeswalkers) and works really nicely with instant speed flicker effects for tricks. You could a flicker a creature and make one of your tokens a copy of it at instant speed.

Otherwise it’s 4cmc for a removal spell you need to also sac a creature for, or 4cmc for a 1/1 flyer. It can uptick to 5 and I have to imagine any deck running this will have blockers out at this point, which should help her stick around.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Seems like a great limited morph payoff for this archetype.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I first just thought that these are mildly better temples but they have the basic land types and are fetchable. I think that really elevates these, especially for EDH.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Just a straight up better [[Eliminate]]!

This gets around any ward on creatures which is really nice considering how much Wizards loves to give creatures ward lately.

Great reprint! Loved this card back in Guilds block, it’s always seemed underplayed to me nowadays.

Scuffle at PlayingMTG collected 100 Lord of the Rings trophy lists between the release of Tales of Middle Earth and Tuesday June 27th, collecting 15 each weekday and 20 each weekend day, from a combination of Discord communities and the fabulous 17lands.com. All lists are from players ranked Diamond or Mythic on Magic Arena.

“A trophy deck” is one that achieved seven wins before three losses in the Premier Draft Event game mode in Magic the Gathering Arena, and analyzing these presents a picture of what cards, combinations, and strategies are finding success at high levels of draft play.

Here’s the raw data that they used, and here’s what they learned:

Is a surprisingly deep set with an abundance of little combos, complex mechanics, and powerful uncommons. Traditionally, the summer release set has been a “Core Set” with more straightforward cards and easier-to-answer bombs. With Lord of the Rings, Wizards of the Coast have managed to develop incredibly deep and interesting mechanics while keeping the cards simpler. Every color pair and strategy has a path to the trophy, even if some of them are more difficult to navigate.

wkmidori took down the Saturday Challenge with Lotus Field Combo in a really diverse top 8. Dr4ken won the Sunday Challenge with Gruul Vehicles. UW Control made a bit of a resurgence on Saturday and Green Devotion was everywhere both days.

Ozymandias17 took down the Legacy Challenge on Saturday with Esper Control, packing a playset of [[Orcish Bowmasters]]. LTR made a big showing this weekend with [[The One Ring]] and Bowmasters all over the top 8, and even getting [[Forth Eorlingas!]], [[Samwise the Stouthearted]] and [[Sauron's Ransom]] (among others) in the top 32!

Interesting decks
