Could be. The overwhelming majority of people seem like they view it as a positive, but if you think of anything I can do beyond what I've already done to make it less impactful on the people who feel that it's a negative, let me know. For example that's why it's segregated to a separate instance and not combined in with any other content so it's easier to block.

(Actually, I think your instance has done something additional about it already, they marked a previous iteration with some kind of special flag that makes results from this instance not show up in the "home" feed which makes a good bit of sense to me. It might be worth checking if they've done that to ibbit.at specifically, they probably will want to if they haven't already.)

Lots of RSS feed communities, migrated over from that other instance. Discussion is at [email protected].

Here's a full list of what's available, it's mainly news with a politics / tech focus, but there's all kinds of stuff:

Communities

News & Journalism

Regional

Culture, Politics & Society

Nature and Environment

IT and Tech

Science and Technology

Ars Technica

Streams

Art & Entertainment

Gaming

Please report spam, some sources are okay but also post spam stories sometimes, I keep a blacklist and generally try to be a good citizen. If you want to have something that you don't see, let me know.

Also, if you know of any duplication between these communities and something that already exists somewhere, please let me know. The point is to make available high quality content for people who want it, not to overwhelm with autoposted fluff.

Paywalled or partially paywalled content gets posted by a separate bot, @[email protected], to make it a little easier to block that for people who don't want it.

Enjoy.

Sure. It's just set up to post whatever is the RSS body, but I added an exception for your blog to just post the link to it. I haven't tested, so just let me know if it's still doing it and I'll look into it more.

I didn't think about it, but it's a good idea. If people are into the idea I'll set it up again, it should be easy to do.

Welcome! Here, you can easily subscribe to a variety of RSS news sources presented as Lemmy communities. We have two bot users posting content:

If you don't want paywalled content, you can block the paywall user. Or, if you don't want any of this, you can block both or the whole instance.

If you don't see a community for an RSS feed you would like to follow, create a post in [email protected] or send me a DM. I'll post announcements to this community when new feeds get added, so subscribe if you want updates.

In addition, you can add any RSS feed to any community which you moderate. Send a DM to [email protected] with any number of the following commands:

  • /add $rss_url $community@$instance - Add a new RSS feed
  • /delete $rss_url $community@$instance - Unlink an existing RSS feed from the community
  • /list $community@$instance - List all feeds for a community
  • /help - Show this help message

For example:

/add https://hackaday.com/blog/feed/ [email protected]

Welcome! Glad to have you with us. If you have questions or want a new feed added, you know what to do.
