If they have to keep Monaco and keep sprints, might as well make Monaco a sprint weekend and have two qualis.

Apparently - the complete session recorded by the Butthole Surfers on 20 September 1988 for the John Peel show on BBC Radio 1 and broadcast on the 27th of that month.

Didn’t read the books but found it an ok watch which was obv not enough for a marquee show.

That overtake on the first lap was smooth. Deserved win.

Looks like a lot of the energy went into lifting the car rather than the barrier for yuki.

I randomly watched Strictly Ballroom (1992) which was Baz Lurhmans directing debut. I vaguely recall it being a reasonably big deal, checking in it made 80milon a budget of 3 and is the third biggest grossing Aussie movie of all time so says Wikipedia.

Low budget but was a straight up feel good quirky Luhrmann movie.

Unsurprising - let’s see what Colapinto can do. I haven’t been keeping an eye on how Alpine/Gaslys been doing.

Alpine seems like such a cluster. Missing the Cyril / Renault days

Looking like the fight will be between the McLarens - Oscar is just a cool customer. I wouldnt have picked williams fighting with ferrari at this stage of the season.

Cool idea to DIY - the actual plans on the site are $$ paid though.

I did not know this was a thing, SS2 is one my fave FPS titles, so hopefully this will be a worthy release.

havent watched the whole 2 hours yet but so far full of interesting details - e.g. I had no idea Rubin did the guitar on the Beastie Boys No Sleep Till Brookln.

A bit over streaming at the moment so am queuing up a few Humphrey Bogart movies - does anyone have any recommendations?

So far I have some of the big ones Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, Sabrina. Watched Casablanca for the first time - loved it.

Looks like Sony are giving some love to the game they kicked to the kerb (Which wasnt helped by two insane reviews by Gamespot and IGN)

Fantastic game, but I what I want to hear about is DG2.

Heimsslit, by Múr [2024] (murofficialband.bandcamp.com)

Very atmospheric this one -

This album was my entry into crowbars discography - super solid atmospheric songs all the way through, great production for a sludge album. (See also: Sonic Excess in Its Purest Form)

Definitely worth a listen if you have listened to DOWN and want to see what Kirk brings to that group.

Not many reviews up this - via Metal Archives

..this is the best album Crowbar had done up to this point. As I've stated many times before, its definitely heavier, possibly more riff oriented than before, and definitely fleshing out new ideas. I can't really say this beats out "Sonic Excess..." or "Lifesblood for the Downtrodden" because I havn't heard those albums in their entirety, but it comes close from what I have heard of them.

Any fan of Crowbar definitely needs to pick this up, while it also makes a good first for the curious listener. Its not quite as accessible as the self-titled was, but its better in most respects. I'd also branch out and say its worthy of checking out for doom fans who don't mind the sludge variant, nor the lack of complex structures and virtuoso shredding. If its an attempt at something better, I would have to say it succeeded and surpassed expectations of a Crowbar release.

From the album Absolute Elsewhere.

Havent listened to much Blood Incantation but am finding this album a lot of fun.

A classic track from Goldies 1995 classic album. Kemistry was one of the cofounders of the Metalheadz label.

Red Moon, by Ubiquity [2024] (ubiquitybe.bandcamp.com)

I havent really had a chance to hear the new album but the first thing that registered were the use of the harsh vocals. (Note, havent heard in cauda much).

This Sputnik Review which contained the following:

  • He (Åkerfeldt) talks about it cynically in interviews, saying that it feels like the growls are all anybody ever cared about in the band’s music. And it seems like this is a little bit true, at least for some fans; for a lot of people, the first reaction to hearing “Paragraph 1” was to proclaim that Opeth is “finally back,.*

I dont know what reviews were referenced, but if true, just curious as to whether prog listeners agree that it was always about the growls... Lets face it metal fans can be heavily OTT with change.
