Does the background upload works for you?

[–] Xirup 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean, yeah, but first I need to learn to self-host.

[–] Xirup 5 points 1 year ago

And what's your experience? Anything that you want to highlight?

[–] Xirup 1 points 1 year ago

I currently have a Thinkpad W530 with a Quadro K2000M. Because I have coreboot as its firmware, I am able to run completely on the discrete GPU. So far I've been doing great.

I've looked on the feature matrix of the nouveau support and my GPU (Kepler) happens to have all the features checked-off, with the exception of dynamic power management (mostly WIP).

Right now, I'm running KDE wayland with the nouveau driver with no issue.

On the other hand, I've tried having the hybrid GPU and it sucks.

I'm not a bot, I just find funny this.

NIce to know, thanks.

I used to have a problem like this, but it was specific to virtual machines, IDK if it's related.

[–] Xirup 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Dumb question, how do I know if I can upload videos without registering each instance and what size limit do they allow?

[–] Xirup 2 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I suppose in the case where I'm using Google Play with a Google account, the most likely thing is that I'll be able to update without a problem because my account is in the country where the app is located, just that it's using the servers in the country where I live.

In the case of the Aurora store of APKMirror, well, I'm fucked, I guess the only think that I can do is use the website of my bank, that I suppose this will be the case in many banks, the interface and the overall experience is worse than that of the app.

To be honest, is just a shit that many, not to say all banking apps depend specifically on Google to work, it would not be a surprise to me that if I try to install my banking app extracting the APK for myself and then installing it on a deGoogled phone, the app will tell me that it requires Google to work or something like that.

[–] Xirup 4 points 1 year ago (6 children)

I live in a Central American country where I simply can't find my banking app in Aurora Store or in APKMirror (or any of those sites), and when I search the app name in Google Play it's there, so I guess it has some kind of logic since the app uses anonymous Google accounts that are probably located in a country where it makes no sense that my banking app is there, I mean, why should my Central American banking app be shown in US for example?

[–] Xirup 2 points 1 year ago (9 children)

Without mentioning that most of the time (and probably depending where you live) you won't find your banking app in there, nor in the Aurora Store usually.

Thanks, I have already seen that and I have posted the information in lemmy.ml for any Yiffit users who are still having problems.

A moment ago I unmounted my 1TB HDD with 400GB of content and I partition it into two different partitions, obviously keeping the space that was already occupied. I did because I don't care if the content get corrupted, but after I did it everything is still working perfectly, when I thought everything would be corrupted.

I am possibly a complete ignorant on this subject, but due to the nature of the HDD and how it writes and reads data I expected it to corrupt everything, why didn't it happen? On an SSD on the other hand I would not consider that possible because it is not even a mechanical part where the information is stored.

After some time of practicing PyQt I found out about Kivy, as a beginner which one can be considered with an "easier" syntax to learn? After several days of practicing PyQt I feel I would be throwing away my learning for Kivy.

PyQt is not that complex really but what I hate with all my heart is using Qt Designer and then exporting that to a .py file, I really don't like the way it formats the text, but that's just a personal detail. I know I can perfectly do it manually but all the tutorials and I mean ALL of them always do it in that way.

I want to clarify that I'm interested in Android application development, that's really a strong point for me of Kivy.

I've been learning Python by myself for about 3 years now and I can say that I know quite a lot but I don't really feel confident in my own programming skills and always after a while of practicing or reviewing I end up quitting because I feel exactly this.

I don't know how to explain it, but I really feel like I'm in a cycle repeating the same noob exercises over and over again.

For example, lately I have been practicing a lot PyQt but I really feel that I am wasting time when I don't learn a new concept or I don't memorize something and I need to look at my notes to remember how to do it, and also that practicing with online courses, especially with Youtube is often a challenge because the authors do things differently and I get confused by that. And when I want to learn something new the amount of information overwhelms me and I feel tired because of that.

As a Linux user I know that what I just said is stupid, because for example it is impossible to learn all the commands in the world, you just really learn the ones you use most regularly but in programming I feel that for example asking ChatGPT (or any ChatBot) counts as cheating for some reason, I don't know how to explain it.

I really consider this probably a mentality problem more than a skill problem because honestly even though I know I can I don't feel sure how to program, many times I even doubt the name of my variables or my functions.

Thanks for reading my silly post!

I refuse to dualboote Windows simply because of the negligence on Dice's part for not supporting Linux on purpose, and I fear this will go on forever, does anyone know if Battlefield V was supported by Wine/Proton at the beginning of its release or was support added voluntarily?

I know the question is rather awkward at first and I am possibly overlooking something, but I would like to know something I really don't understand.

In the past I have used modified versions of Spotify and they are fine but obviously no modified version allows you to download songs because it is a premium function at server level and honestly I would like to have my songs on my device, so if I don't have internet I can still listen to them.

After those modified versions of Spotify, I have used apps like ViMusic, Spotube and SimpMusic which are basically Youtube Music apps but without ads and with more features, including downloading music, the problem is that they do that at the level of the app itself, not in a separate file. And I love these apps and I can not recommend them enough but my phone is a little old and I see 0 need to change it since I use it for basics usage and although this can sound dumb the interface of these apps are full of blur and unnecessary effects that make my device slow, including Spotify, and I don't like Spotify Lite because I feel it is a very trimmed version of Spotify.

So this is where my question comes in, for those who exclusively download music, how do you discover new songs? Spotify's recommendation system is great and Youtube's radio mode is very good but obviously I need to use Spotify or Youtube Music to use it and I prefer to use light apps for local playback because of what I already mentioned.

Edit: Thanks for all the recommendations! I never thought this post would get so many answers and there are too many comments to answer one by one, but I admit that the old-school method of reading blogs or magazines works well, and I also like the idea of sites like Last.fm or discogs.

I'm subscribed to multiple RSS feeds from different websites but I really feel like not all those pages cover the news in an objective way.

gamingonlinux is a great place for example, but it mainly covers things related to Linux, Proton and Steam, and I would like to see news on different topics, but I don't like most of the sites I am subscribed because they usually abuse a lot of the same subject and it's tired to have my RSS loaded with news that I'm not interested in reading at first.

It would be great if you can suggest me sites that talk about gaming on general, whether PC, consoles and in general all franchises, not just those of a certain developer.

Thanks.

Does anyone know any open source FPS still maintained? I know some like Unvanquished and Xonotic and they are ok but I would like to know some others, if they exist.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

No, I don't mean Tetris, I mean this kind of classic arcade games.

At least in Discover (Plasma package manager GUI) I didn't find any similar game, only Tetris clones.

Thank you.

Notorious input lag (self.minetest)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by Xirup to c/[email protected]

As in my other post (I think it is better to keep the posts separate because they are different problems) Minetest on Linux has a strange input lag in the mouse, it is not very big but it is very noticeable for a game like Minecraft, it gives me headaches when playing with that input lag.

I tried to activate the mouse "smoothing" and although I would say it helps a little, it doesn't really fix it, it just camouflages it and gives a weird sliding effect on the mouse.

As I already mentioned, this problem is exclusive of Minetest in Linux, in Windows I don't suffer from any problem.

I consider that these problems are Nvidia's propietary drivers fault, I was really investigating a lot this problem before posting this here but I didn't find anything, just some unrelated issues in Github.

Hi! I have been enjoying Minetest immensely these last few days but it is simply unplayable on my PC because it is unable to maintain a stable framerate, be it 30 or 60 fps. Sometimes when viewing giant block structures or sometimes at random times the FPS drops to 24 or less and I tried to lower the rendering distance (I think it's called differently) but although it does improve, it shouldn't be fixed if my PC is 100% capable of running it well, and in fact on Windows it runs beautifully.

Specs: RTX 3060, Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB DDR4, SSD.

I thought it was a problem with my distro (Garuda Linux) so I installed another one (KDE Neon) and it's exactly the same, I also switched from X11 to Wayland and it's still the same, I honestly don't know why this happens but it's not hardware deficiency, also I tried the git version (via AUR), flaptak and snap, the problem persists,

In Windows it works perfectly without any problem, it runs great and with everything set to maximum but in Linux it is simply unplayable.

I would like to add something important, and it is that in Linux none of the compilations uses the GPU to the maximum, according to nvtop it is being used but in very little measure, and it seems that the CPU does everything.

To do this, first you need to have Firefox Nightly or Beta installed on your phone, then go to addons.mozilla.org and search in the search bar for User-Agent Switcher and install it by pressing the "Add to Firefox" button and now you should have User-Agent Switcher installed.

Now, you must press the 3 dots on the Firefox toolbar and go to Add-ons and open User-Agent Switcher.

Once there, choose Firefox 117 (or whatever version is available at the time you read this) and it doesn't matter if it's Windows or Linux, but to keep things simple choose Windows / Firefox 117.

Now, go to addons.mozilla.org again and again press the 3 dots and activate the option that says "Desktop site" and that's it, now you should be able to install any addon you want by going to the addon you want and pressing the "Add to Firefox" button, then you will get a pop-up asking if you want to add the addon and simply press yes.

I hope this guide is useful to someone! I recently came across this by chance and really found absolutely no information regarding this, so I posted it here.

It should be noted that not all extensions work as expected, some don't even open, but most of them work.

A few days ago I download a movie but the movie was in another language and I'm definitely not going to watch it because of that, I still completed the 1:1 ratio because at the end of the day I downloaded the file and used other people's bandwidth, but what is one supposed to do in this situation?

I mean, with a 3gb movie it doesn't matter, 3gb is nothing and I'm sure there are those who download stuff just to seed it even though they will never use it or watch it, but something that happens to me very often is that as a Linux user I download a game (let's say FH6) and I download the Steamrip version but it doesn't work and then I find out that the Empress version does work (don't ask me why because it was Empress who made the crack) and now we are not talking about 3gb, we are talking about 200gb which is a considerable space for my PC, even if I have 1TB of SSD 200GB is enough and depending on the time it takes to get to the ratio 1: 1 can be worse.

Edit: Thanks for all those answers!
