I’m on team tab 100% I guess I was saying if someone felt they had to use spaces then they shouldn’t handicap everyone else because of their choice and an interpreter could normalize their code.

A real government would look into ways to just give basic income to creatives (and ~~anyone~~ everyone else) so even if they didn't have to slave away illustrating for corps, they could focus efforts on art, themselves, community, or whatever else drove them. That's how you operate in a post-scarcity world.

But nah. Capitalism.

My only windows machine is my work laptop with windows 11 docked to three monitors. The other three are mint, endeavor, and qubes hosting several systems. I prefer Linux but the performance of the work laptop has never been an issue even if I don’t like it. I can reboot, connect to the vpn, have word relaunched to a recovered copy, and be back in a teams meeting with outlook open and Jira up in 5 minutes or less. I have to do it once or twice a month because something stupid stops working while I’m in a meeting. These 15 minute reboots, make coffee between, and other similar commentary comes across as wishcasting. There’s plenty of reasons windows sucks. My company has all kinds of stupid agents installed on it that negatively impacts performance also. McAfee was the worst, I’m glad they got rid of that but that wasn’t a windows problem either.

I don’t understand why this is such a big deal for anyone. With all the UI utilities available it would be incredibly easy to have a setting to interpret 5 consecutive spaces as a tab or a tab as 5 consecutive spaces and just let whoever prefers what to choose how they are going to interface with the code. Hell, you could even make it so 5 is the default and have custom consecutive values as an advanced option in the interpreter for edge cases. So many incredibly more challenging issues have been resolved in IDEs, I just don’t get it.

My remote controlled fan sounds like yours except it still has a physical switch on the side of the housing to change direction. I still hate the fan but thought I would share just in case you never checked.

I take cash out of an atm a few times a year to tip at restaurants and such and just pick $200 because that’s the highest one button click that shows up. $100 seems low to me. I think I got over $100 in my wallet more days of the year than not and I’m not into anything nefarious or even make much money, I just don’t use cash very often but often enough that having it available is handy. Theirs Girl Scouts, fire fighter donations at the grocery, neighborhood sports or band raffles, just random ass things that happen regular enough that having cash throughout the year makes it easier to feel part of the community.

Guy I grew up with had his truck broken into outside a hotel a couple years ago. They stole a bunch of his tools from the cab and tool box in the bed but left a pistol that was sitting on his passenger seat, another one that was sitting on the case of his diagnostics tool that was sitting on top of his center console, which they stole, along with the ammo and a rifle he had in the toolbox in the bed of his truck. I agree storing shit like that is irresponsible and should also be met with consequences, although some establishments you can’t take a gun into so having it cleared and in a locked gun case in the vehicle I believe to be a reasonable measure. Only reason I can imagine they left all his guns and ammo behind is that there must be more significant charges and/or investigative resources that go into a situation where firearms are involved where he lives.

I think stolen is too far as long as the gun owner acts responsibly following the theft and reports it to the police but otherwise, I completely agree. Owning a gun should come with personal accountability for that gun.

These posts are absolutely perfect timing for me. I’m looking to start replacing an old Synology Diskstation I bought back in 2016 that has worked for me flawlessly. I really appreciate everyone sharing their details and experiences here.
