Obviously Catholic church does way more harm than good but better than not doing this for sure

Pope Francis has made what many are calling a historic statement against laws that criminalize homosexuality.

In an interview with the Associated Press, the pope says that God loves everyone and told Catholic bishops to welcome queer people.

“Being homosexual isn’t a crime,” Francis told the news wire.

The pontiff still referred to homosexuality as “sin,” but criticized Catholic bishops and church leaders who were involved in pushing for the criminalization of homosexuality across the world.

He added that those sorts of sentiments stemmed from the leaders’ cultural backgrounds.

“These bishops have to have a process of conversion,” Francis told the AP, saying they needed to use “tenderness, please, as God has for each one of us.”

He said that these laws are “unjust” and that the Catholic Church should work to stop them.

“It must do this. It must do this,” Francis said. “We are all children of God, and God loves us as we are and for the strength that each of us fights for our dignity,” Francis added, quoting the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The Transportation Security Administration’s No-Fly List is one of the most important ledgers in the United States, containing as it does the names of people who are perceived to be of such a threat to national security that they’re not allowed on airplanes. You’d have been forgiven then for thinking that list was a tightly-guarded state secret, but lol, nope.

A Swiss hacker known as “maia arson crimew” has got hold of a copy of the list—albeit a version from a few years ago—not by getting past fortress-like layers of cybersecurity, but by...finding a regional airline that had its data lying around in unprotected servers. They announced the discovery with the photo and screenshot above, in which the Pokémon Sprigatito is looking awfully pleased with themselves.

Anti-German (German: Antideutsch) is the generic name applied to a variety of theoretical and political tendencies within the left mainly in Germany and Austria. The Anti-Germans form one of the main camps within the broader Antifa movement, alongside the Anti-Zionist anti-imperialists, after the two currents split between the 1990s and the early 2000s as a result of their diverging views on Israel. The anti-Germans are a fringe movement within the German left: In 2006 Deutsche Welle estimated the number of anti-Germans to be between 500 and 3,000. The basic standpoint of the anti-Germans includes opposition to German nationalism, a critique of mainstream left anti-capitalist views, which are thought to be simplistic and structurally antisemitic, and a critique of antisemitism, which is considered to be deeply rooted in German cultural history. As a result of this analysis of antisemitism, support for Israel and opposition to Anti-Zionism is a primary unifying factor of the anti-German movement. The critical theory of Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer is often cited by anti-German theorists.

It seems to be happening, Pandorans: Much like the gradual meteoric rise of James Cameron’s first Avatar movie, the sequel—The Way Of Water—is quietly climbing its way up the all-time international box office charts. The movie crossed $1 billion just before the end of 2022, half of what it needs to break even (grimacing face emoji), and as of yesterday it cracked $1.5 billion.

That’s according to Deadline, which says that this total puts Avatar: The Way Of Water a couple of bucks ahead of Furious 7, number 10 on the all-time list of highest-grossing blockbusters internationally, and it will also probably be enough to put it ahead of the first Avengers movie (which made $1.518 billion in 2012). It’ll take a little more doing to get any higher than that, with the next target being the Lion King remake (which inexplicably made $1.66 billion in 2019), but there is a weekend coming up and M3gan might not end up being everyone’s cup of robo-tea. Why not see Avatar?

Domestically, The Way Of Water is making a much smaller splash: It’s currently number 23 in the all-time charts, behind a bunch of Marvel movies, Star Wars movies, and Disney cartoons, but Avatar movies (of which there have only been two) tend to make the vast majority of their money internationally anyway. More than 70 percent of the original Avatar’s ultimate haul came from outside the United States, and the same is definitely going to be true for The Way Of Water whenever it eventually finishes its theatrical run—and that’s not even counting any re-releases that Cameron will probably want to do in the lead-up to his other Avatar movies. Once we’re on number five or six, The Way Of Water will have cool retro appeal.
