Shumer credits Glaive AI — a company he invested in — for its LLM special cases, like telling which number is bigger or how many times the letter “r” appears in the word “strawberry.” Those are the two examples Shumer named to VentureBeat.

I quite often pondered how cool it'd have been to be a computer scientist like 50-70 years ago, you know, one of the pioneers, people on whose shoulders the entire tech sector rests now.

Think about all the advantages! Maybe I'd get to talk to Turing! Maybe I'd invent a foundational algorithm that would be in textbooks forever! Maybe I would've fucking died before this absolute blight on our domain happened!

I got mad at this last time I saw Nate Bronze assign percentages to the 2024 US election.

Like, my dude, what the fuck does that mean? Is the election result a random variable? What is its PDF? What maths could you have possibly done to arrive at a crisp [0, 1] probability value?

How did you go from "predict the future", an obviously wildly fuzzy and inaccurate vibes check, to a concrete real number??

So why on earth was anyone calling him a good candidate to replace Biden? Sounds like one of the worst people you'd want in charge of anything, much less a country?

Seems he resembles RFK Jr. more than a Democrat.

they would get exponentially higher ROI

They'd get infinitely higher ROI by not using genAI in the first place.

I didn't seek out the video before, I read about all the glaring problems, but one thing that no one pointed out was... why is the entire thing slow motion?

Like, you know Doom? The game where the brisk pace and constant movement are a core part of its DNA? Witness it running at 0.5x speed and like 5FPS in the year of our acausal robot lord 2024.

My trajectory of learning about this Newsom fellow was amazing.

  • First heard of him existing when some Very Serious People were floating him as a replacement for Biden like two months ago
    • Infer from that that he's progressive maybe?
  • Like right after that a big story how he forcefully cleared homeless encampments like a fucking cartoon villain
    • So he's actually a weird little conservative in disguise?
  • Now this fucking nonsense.

How do you keep producing people like this, America?

Also he's a programmer? You can find a Python job that isn't, you know, this bullshit.
