I don't know how it works in Canada, but I'd renew it just as identification. Doesn't matter if you have it or not for driving, but at least in the states a drivers license is ubiquitous as photo id.

When I bought a new house, the insurance company sent an inspector to check the outside. Trees, roof, siding, nothing inside but the basics outside.

We had to trim a tree back because they didn't want it overhanging the roof at all. Annoying, but relatively minor. They want to minimize their payout, which makes perfect sense. Part of that is making sure the homeowner takes care of the property.

I'm pretty sure certificates signed by internal CAs are exempt. I would have to go find the documentation but I believe that was called out.

I recently moved. At the old house, I was close enough to walk, but generally I drove because I bought for a week at a time for a family of four. We only moved a few miles away, but pretty much every grocery store is about 3 miles away. I'm on the edge of a city of about 70k people.

No, different materials have different refractive indices, even if they're both "clear crystals." Maybe the examples given are very close in refractive index, but they still differ, therefore split light differently. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_refractive_indices

I'm not saying it's the entire difference, but it certainly comes into play. It could be that the more "explosive" light example is cut identically, but held slightly askew versus the others.

Point is, it's not just the cut that impacts the result.

Isn't it both shape and material? The refractive index of the material is important in determining how much the light bends at the interface.

So many things we need to focus on as a country, and this is what the priority is. Or, at least, this is what we hear about. Either way, it's ridiculous.

I try to tell myself that it's unlikely, or we live in a place it couldn't possibly happen...which is all BS and I know it.

I just have to hope it's something I'll never have to deal with. If I was truly that concerned, I'd have to home school, and that's just not going to happen. So it's basically a low level of constant dread, and it's disgusting that this is where we're at here, because no one wants to face the facts and actually do anything about problem.
