Justin Trudeau tried to speak to the American people and did play heavy on the lasting friendship between the two countries. Will that dull the backlash against Canada? Trump wants an enemy out of Mexico, Canada, and China.

From the Canadian angle: If only the Premier of Oil Country hadn’t gone to Mar a Lago and stayed in solidarity with the leaders of the other 9 provinces. Trudeau won’t alienate AB + SK.

I suspect he wants a renegotiation of “the best trade deal ever”. If I’m not mistaken, the earliest he can pull out is when they meet in July ‘26 with a 6 month notice. This coincides with Midterms where tariffs could have electoral consequences.
