Since federation, or perhaps since we dropped the fork, I feel like notifications of answers to your comments sometimes don't trigger, or at least are heavily delayed; is it just me ?

Assuming you mean new users even from outside the instance, I've seen a few users from elsewhere post dune memes, and we need more duneposting
Also more generally the free software / anti-IP / linux content seems to have increased (we had comms for those of course but theirs are bigger) and that's pretty great too

It's all internal struggle sessions from here, exclusively, despite all the recent dunk threads (also, it's like 2/3 threads that are one or two year olds), with tons of comments but at most like a hundred upbears
Now sort by All > Top of all time; it's exclusively threads from other instances, with more upbears, but less comments
Beyond being the most inclusive space I've seen on the web, hexbear might be that rare thing among online communities: a place with more posters than lurkers/upvoters
At least part of that must be due to the excellent decision to remove the downvotes, too
