It isn't. The Democratic party is made up of wealthy elite with no principles other than winning election. Their policies around minorities might be different, but for the most part the Democrats are similar in their strength of character.

Japan owns a lot of American debt but most of it is owned by American domestic companies.

America won't disappear, it'll just get more unstable. That's what I'm worried about with all these wars.

That said, America's economic heft (particularly shale and world reserve currency status) is a core part of America's ability to assert influence.

Yes, as I mentioned he said so himself that he wants to annex Greenland even if by military force.

Trump's threats are far more threatening than some pretty reasonable beaurocratic moves, although the threats do put the beaurocratic moves in a really unflattering context (regardless of whether it's related or not, I have no idea on that front, I don't know if the northern command is MAGA).

I guess someone in the Canadian government has been watching too much Fox News if they think LA is particularly dangerous.

Meh, millionaires are fine. Becoming a millionaire is something you can do with good health and hard work.

If it's 10 million I get a bit concerned. If it's 100 million I have a problem. If it's 1 billion then I'd consider them evil incarnate.

Given that geographically it is on the North American continent, shares a land border with Canada, and is in the Arctic I think this decision does make logical sense.

The timing though, and Trump's stated intention, makes this a threat.

If it's Boeing I'm not going.

If it's Boeing, I'm not going.

So I've tried out a few search engines but no matter where I look I can't find a great answer.

  • Qwant was decent for a bit but as I eventually found out they don't use their own index.
  • SearXNG, same as above.
  • Mojeek was one of the first I went with but I often can't find what I'm looking for when using it.
  • Wikipedia gives me YaCy, Exalead, Opensearch, Gigablast, and Elasticsearch but either I can't find the URL's for them or they require I install something on my computer.

What did you all end up picking? And does it even matter if the back-end is American owned, do American companies make money from that (or does that give them inordinate control)?

For me it was the prospect that it may have an impact.

Mildly inconvenience myself to microscopically inconvenience American companies didn't seem worth it.
