Sadly, I think you overestimate the general interest there would be in such an announcement. Also, it is not as though we will be getting images of little green aliens, any evidence will be far more circumstantial, tentative and over many years. It will be hard to sustain any public excitement for that long.

My wife and I generally eat my homemade sourdough over three days, as sandwiches and toast. By the third day it is a bit stale, but still OK for a sandwich, at which point I make some more. I use it for toast up to about five days, if there is any left (unlikely). It also freezes well, if sliced first.
I probably spend about 30 minutes every 3 days making it - obviously not including waiting time whilst proving/baking. Probably about 4 to 5 hours overall.
I also loved this book when I first read it as a teenager many years ago, along with the Foundation series: another great Asimov book that springs to mind is The God Themselves, which is quite unlike anything else he wrote, but fascinating too.
Unfortunately when I reread Foundation many years later, it did not stand up to my memory. One of the downsides of getting older, if not wiser.
