Built my 3D printer from scratch back in 2013 because prebuilt was so expensive

That's cool, I did the exact same thing in 2013... http://www.shadowram.ca/

JHead + Greg Wades Extruder with a RAMPS 1.4 board... retrofit an old Cartesian bot that was scrapped.

Yes,

https://kbin.social/m/functionalprint

most lemmy's can find it.

But it appears your particular lemmy (mindoki.com) isn't federated with kbin or something.

It should look like https://lemmy.mindoki.com/c/[email protected]

If fact, mindoki is missing a LOT of communities in the fediverse.

I started a sub that had 400k users and was around for 10 years. /r/functionalprint

After I made it read only, admins they just up and gave it to some rando mod that had no experience in that sub at all.
So it doesn't surprise me the mods of a lot of subs have absolutely NO experience in the subs they are modding.

Screw Reddit.

There are a ton of dangerous 3D printing happening. Especially people doing shit that's pressurized.

to be fair, at the height these things will be flying, you won't hear them on most days.

What was the idea of making it out of metal?

What material options do you think they had at the time?

Two Options.

1 - Your slicer can split the STL into two parts and you print them at the same time, then glue them together.

2 - You print entire thing. Pause the print 1/2 way through, place the clip and resume the print.

No.

Taxes pay for the infrastructure that companies rely on to operate.

Taxes don't reward the workers for their contribution to the companies bottom line.

My first RC Airplane I ever built folded like that.

I instantly knew the spot I used Balsa Wood when I should have used Ply Wood.

Took an hour to dig that engine out of the dirt.

labor cost savings to the people instead of the owners.

This is the way.

Profit sharing should be a part of our laws.

but what does that accomplish? You cant start a revolution if you are dead

Usually its a single death is the last nail in the coffin the triggers it.

Not really.

You can weigh it, and the slicer gives you an estimate of how much volume/mass is needed.

But it's not too difficult to pause a print. Unload what little you have left and reload a new roll then resume the print.

That's assuming you have another roll of the exact type/color filament you are using ready to go.
