Try installing and using gamemode (if you haven't already).

I don't have experience with those particular sticks, but back when Elite only supported 32 buttons per device (I think they upped this to 128 a year or two ago) I used AntimicroX to map the buttons Elite couldn't see to keyboard keys, which the game then allowed me to map. Might be worth trying in your case, too.

I've been using a FP5 on Mint Mobile in rural US for about a year maybe; It's worked pretty well so far. I get decent 5G in the (very) small town I live in, and decent 4G in most other places out in the sticks.

I've had a similar problem across various distros and several years: everything is fine for a while, then suddenly several games have audio crackling issues. I can usually (but not always) solve this with a PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command% in the launch options; sometimes a different number, such as 20 or 30, works better.

Are you using Steam Input Settings to map those dpad buttons? If so, try setting that back to default, then use AntiMicroX to map keyboard input to your dpad instead.

I'll add another recommendation for Posteo. Been using it for a few years now. It's cheap to start with, and the extra features don't cost much extra. Through them I've discovered that I like having a bunch of aliases that all point to the same inbox.
