I loved my 1900 house. When we moved in, our insurance company said they wouldnt insure us if the knob and tube running in the attic was active. Our inspector wrote up the report saying it was dead wire, just didnt take it out when they ran romex... fast forward to us selling the house. New inspector tells us that knob and tube IS active and we have to replace it to sell the house. Sigh.

Another fun was trying to fix a door that didnt close right. Naturally i assumed the frame settled and wasnt square. Eventually started to get to work when i realized the frame WAS square, just about the only square joint in the house. But it mustve no been because the door was planed at an angle lol. That solid wood door replacement was hundreds of dollars, so it didn't get replaced

Have you ever read the unclassified annual threat assessment? There is an official report the intelligence comminity puts out every year detailing what other nations are doing around the world. And that's just what theyre allowed to tell us.

Ive read it, and if you look at what they detail out for chinas militarzation moderniation plans, theres not many reasons theyre doing what theyre doing unless to compete with the USA. Not to mention, chinas going faster than what originally was thought, and theyre becoming less reliant on other nations to do it. Thats just 1 nation. The usa has stuck its nose in too many peoples business that if they stop the arms race, there could be a lot of nations coming knocking. Weve painted ourselves into a corner (or at least have the perception of it).

Edit: all that said, theres definitely ways to be more fiscally responsible with our military spending... just look at the f35 or the sentinel program

I bought lockheed martin call options after the way the steel markets rebounded

Edit: just checked volume on LMT. 2.4M today vs an average of 1.35M. Yeeeeeeah. Lot more buyers than usual today

Getting rid of a DEI initiative doesnt fix any of that though. We'd simply go back to the times of, "oh who'd she sleep with to get this job?"

Nope. When I left reddit, there was a lot of people pushing for discord like its a replacement. Its very much not the same thing. Its basically a chat room with a handful of extra features

Yea when i travel to different cities for games, i buy a ton of shit and stay in their hotels. Ever been to a game? All restaurants and bars are absolutely packed before, after, and during the games

Yes, but i also get it. If you want to build a stadium very near the city, thats going to cost more than if you build out in the middle of no where. The city, and surrounding businesses want the stadium close to them becuase it drives business at the local shops/hotels/restaurants, which then also drives increased tax revenue.

The way the city incentivizes the owners to build near them is with tax incentives, which ultimately gets passed on to the local community. But the community does also benefit from those other things i mentioned above, but how much isnt as tangible as "my property tax went up x% to pay for their stadium"

Id argue the real sense of worry is by living a life style below your means. As someone who has had to live pay check to paycheck, but has been fortunate enough to have a substantial increase in salary, dont spend all your money. If you dont change your habits with new money, the worry will fade away.

You can stop keeping strict budgets on things and make them more vague. As long as savings account keeps going up, the worry fades

Thats why you need both the senate and the house. Impeachment means nothing if you dont have both chambers because you need the other to actually enforce the impeachment

My company (major conglomerate) keeps track of demographics like this, at every level. Even as specific KPIs like "women in semior executive roles." While ive never actually seen any written plans or anyone admitting they hired someone for a role to meet a metric, there are a handful of things that do stick out as fishy.

There have been roles that have been upgraded in title but not scope when a non white male has taken over, and there are certainly a few people who you look at and think, "how the hell did you get this job." That said, there is one person who is in charge of almost all my questionable experiences, and hes the kind of person who would do that to meet a metric because HR told him he had to, not because he sees value in it.

Most of our other managers approach it much differently. We try to widen our recruiting pool by going different places and by consciously making sure our recruiter team is diverse
